I Quit.

Oh man.

OhHHhHHh man.

Ya'll ain't ready for this.

Words cannot express to you how good I feel right now. To say that quiting my job was the right thing for me.

I wish you could sit with me and have me explain so let me do the best I can.

I worked for two years at an amazing company.  I mean honestly it couldn't have been more perfect for me. It was flexible, everyone was great, I loved my boss....plus it was in marketing/digital media so I wasn't so far outside of the realm of what I do outside of my work anyway. Truly, I couldn't have had a better experience.

But ya know what man.

Even if it's working, and you know in your heart that it's not what you want or that it's no longer aligned or serving you...then you gotta make a move.

With the full time job, Almost 30 Podcast and Hundred I was working 7 days a week.

All day. Most nights, some mornings, and I lived at a constant heightened level of stress. I would go to the bathroom at client meetings and post a sponsored post on Instagram. Or take interviews for Almost 30 during my lunch break.

I'd walk out to take calls with sponsors, or check my emails when I would walk to the bathroom at work. I always felt like there was more to do.

I also felt like okay I am doing this. I am getting away with it....(in the sense that I was still alive, HA)

I survived another week. Phew. Got it. Now I can work all weekend, get everything done that I wanted to all week...

But I had a few expanding moments. One of them was speaking at an event, where, I said no at first.

I had to work.

They came back and asked what the price was? How much would it take for me to do speak at their event as a panel moderator (aka my dream).

I gave them the same price as one of my corporate job paychecks. More actually.

To my surprise, they agreed.

I knew in that moment, that I could make money, more easily, more quickly, doing things I loved than doing things I didn't.

The ability we have to make money when we are doing things we love is infinite.

With Almost 30, for me, making money is FUN. I get to talk about my favorite brands, and to share them with people I love and want to experience the brand too. I also get to host events, hang with my best friend, grow and develop Chloe and our interns....

There's nothing better. I know I am not the norm. I know that people don't find what they love to do. I know I'm lucky, but the path hasn't been perfect.

But I also answered the calling.

When I asked for it, I followed the voice. When I prayed to find a job where I was impacting peoples lives in a positive way, utilizing my skills as a communicator, interviewer, and generally curious person...

I got the tap to start to record, to be authentic, and try something new with Lindsey.

I worked at it, I went for it, and then I worked for it again. But I never pushed aside the calling and messages that I was given.

That's the thing, is that so often people ask for their dream job or passion, or to find something they love that they can make money from. But once that hits given to you, the message for what that is, EVEN IF IT'S CRAZY, you need to go for it.

It doesn't need to be quitting your job, it doesn't need to be crazy or put you into debt, but if you want it, you need to follow it, to get scared, to take risks and to choose fear over faith.

I knew that I needed to walk in alignment with the messages I was spreading on the podcast.
How could I talk to these badass entrepreneurs, who have lost it all, gained it back, taken risks, grown businesses, helped others, been scared....and live my life scared and unaligned?

It just felt right.

So I did it. Didn't overthink. Just acted and did. Got my healthcare in order, got us set up with payroll, figured out finances and how things were going to work. Got BUSY with my schedule and Almost 30, but also allowed myself to nap.

Yes, nap. The week after I quit I let myself nap each day. There really is nothing better (especially as a projector) than a nap. It's the ultimate recharge, and feels like the epitome of self care to me.

How I prepared:

  • Saved: Oh I saved. I have more money in my bank account than I have in my whole life, and that money may or may not be used, but it's about 6 months salary to sustain myself, allow myself to still travel for fun, move into a bigger apartment...etc. This number is different for everyone so find one that works for you.
  • I stopped asking everyone else what they would do. Because it doesn't matter what they would do. It's my life and I needed to take ownership for it.
  • I took my own advice, and actually thought about the messages I shared with others to live a life aligned, and made my own life more aligned.
  • I got myself in a great position with Almost 30 Podcast where one job replaced the other. Lindsey and I grew Almost 30 Podcast so much that when I left it felt like I didn't skip a beat. We had so much to do, that I haven't slowed down working since, it's just changed.

It's so personal to you how, when and why, but in the Secret Almost 30 Podcast facebook group we talked about this all the time. There have been so many women that said they left their jobs that weren't filling them up for greener pastures.

It's not about jumping, or taking the leap, or reckless abandon. It's about being the person that you want to be and preparing for years to build a life you love.

I am so excited to create more, do more, share more, be MORE for you and for the listeners of Almost 30 Podcast. Finding more ways to SERVE

I love you!

Manifesting your dream job + spiritual musings with gorgeous moon mama ERICA KMIEC

Hi guys!

Happy you're here. Hope the week is going well. Anything happening? How's life?

I am so excited to share one of my babes with you. Someone that is currently working her dream job, who is super spiritual, creative, beautiful and full of insights. Whenever we hang, I leave with so many things to google and ways I can more deeply connect with myself, love myself or basically live a better life.

Real quick, Erica works at Energy Muse (who I did a post with previously) and works with MAJOR influencers and brands as their marketing outreach manager. She's chatting daily with the likes of Fashion Lush, The Balanced Blonde, Sakara Life and other leading ladies in the space. She's also super knowledgeable about the horoscopes, crystals, self-care, self-love and beauty. I mean, she's truly a model in every sense of the word. She's tall, thin, unique, always tan (she's half Mexican) has the longest lashes you've ever seen (naturally) and truly takes your breath away!

I love her because she's the best listener. Have you ever spoken to someone and just felt...heard? It's like that with Erica.

So this interview is SO GOOD to share her beauty secrets and tricks, to learn how to manifest your dream job, how to use crystals, some of her favorites, and some of the positives and negatives of being in the social media space.

You guys actually may remember my interview with Erica and Ryan from SOLO (She Only Lives Once) blog a while back. She's there too!

So, here we are! My interview with Erica!

Tell us a little about who you are what you do?

Well, I'm Erica and I'm a Maaarketing Outreach Manager at Energy Muse, a crystal healing & crystal healing jewelry company in Torrance (come check us out!).

My role here is to collaborate with brands, influencers and events that align with our mission in order to help Energy Muse grow and spread some soulful energy along the way! :)

When I'm not in the office, you can find me meditating, running, journaling, wine tasting, studying my natal chart, reading spiritual self-love books, grabbing a spoonful of peanut butter and enjoying every precious moment in life with friends, family, my fiancé & pup, @bundleofbo.

Can you tell us about the journey that brought you to your dream job at Energy Muse?

How much time do we have? Haha! I'll try to simplify it as much as I can with this timeline:

January 2014 - Moved to California with my fiancé

March 2014 - Accepted a full-time position at a college marketing agency

June 2014 - Anxiety came rolling in by storm because of unhappiness & apprehension with my career…I was well on my way down a dark spiral

August 2014 - Attended a doctor’s appointment for anxiety and refused western medicine treatment because of my beliefs & values

September 2014 - Meditation practice and spiritual journey began

October 2014-September 2015 - Conducted A LOT of internal soul searching because even though I was unhappy in my career, I had no idea what I wanted to do - I maintained an open-mind, interviewed with other companies, asked for guidance, prayed, continued to meditate & just tried to live my life one beat at a time

October 2015 - Witnessed my first natal chart reading, which was a game changer & I attended my first New Moon Circle in Venice where I learned the magical powers of setting intentions surround by a circle of women

November 2015-March 2016 - With much curiosity & intuition it became more clear on what I was looking for in my next position, I planted my "dream career" seeds where ever I could and watered them with all of my spiritual tools.

I set intentions under every New Moon each month, had coffee dates with wellness leaders, asked mentors about their career paths, attended holistic events, read a bazillion self-improvement books, listened to inspirational podcasts, journaled, meditated, visualized and had pure abundant faith

March 2016 - During a mighty solar eclipse, I was let go from my role and was it ever a blessing in disguise. I wasn't courageous enough to do it myself so the universe did it for me!

April 2016 - BAM! I landed my job at Energy Muse!

Of course there are so many other life details that occurred, but this is a great summary! :)

What's amazing about what you do?

There are so many amazing aspects, but these two parts really stand out:

  1. Connecting with like-minded souls everyday - meditation guides, astrologists, yoga teachers, reiki healers, holistic beauty experts etc. I'm so passionate about all of these wellness realms and I'm grateful that I’m able to associate myself with such individuals! Their experiences, wisdom & high vibrational energies are pure motivation for me!

  2. Learning and absorbing so much meaningful information - from my co-founders telling stories about shamans & healers they’ve encountered, to researching various spiritual practices, to my co-worker, Sara teaching me about every crystal known to man, their properties & uses. I’m a sponge just soaking everything up & loving every moment of it!

I once watched a lecture by Caroline Myss where she discusses how it's in our human nature to crave instructions & direction - we must seek out teachers & mentors because if we don't, our basic instincts will take over - meaning, we would plateau, get "comfortable" & stay there.

It's no one's fault if this ever happens to us because it's simply in our DNA, but that is why it is so important for us to SEEK out people we admire & want to learn from so they can help us reach our highest potential!

I'm so grateful to be in a position, where I'm able to do this. Sorry for the ramble, but I'm a huge advocate of this if you can't tell already! Haha!

As I’m typing all of this out, I’m getting chills & a bit of déjà vu - In October 2015 I attended my first New Moon Circle & one of my first intentions I ever wrote was,

“I am gracefully finding myself being surrounded my like-minded, spiritual women who support one another. I am positively influenced by these women- they guide me, mentor me & inspire me as I continue down my purposeful path.”

And here I am. Crazy, right?

What's it like working in social media? Can you talk about the positives and the negatives?

Social media can be a black hole or it can be a light one!

It all comes down to the type of content you are surrounding yourself with. Being in the spiritual wellness world, Energy Muse as a brand is surrounded by content full of uplifting quotes, beautiful recipes, breathtaking travel pictures & overall positive images.

With my own personal social mediums, I try to do the same by only following handles & influencers who soulfully serve me & motivate me.

I try to stay away from a lot of influencers & brands (models, musicians, high-end brands etc.) that are big in the media because I know they easily trigger me.

Obviously, this is easier said than done & OF COURSE I get sucked into the "I wish" mode - I wish I had this, I wish I looked like that, I wish I could do that etc. - I wouldn't be human if I said otherwise! The moment I catch myself having negative thoughts or mindlessly scrolling on my phone, I acknowledge what I'm doing, let go, put my phone down & think of 3 things I love about myself or that I am grateful for. That quickly re-centers me & brings me back home.

You said it best once before! Instagram & other social outlets are highlights of everyone's BEST selfie, best travel picture, best yoga pose, best recipe, best everything & knowing that also helps keep everything into perspective. :)

Do you have negative self talk ever, and how do you handle it?

I acknowledge all negative self-talk - no matter how loud & crazy it sounds. In fact, I don't know about you, but I've come to notice that the more I dedicate my life to a path of spiritual awakening & enlightenment, the rowdier my ego gets, but it's okay! You know why? Because I have learned that my negative self-talk & my ego are not apart of me or my soul, not even a little. It is completely separate from my authentic self & appears just to try to shake things up a little!

I was recently thinking & I like to compare my ego to a bad telemarketer.

When she comes a knocking on my door, I acknowledge her, have a nice, polite dialogue with her about whatever it is she is trying to "sell" to me (usually in my case it's usually self-doubt & lack of confidence) then politely ask her to leave & say my goodbyes.

Poof! Be gone girl!

Can you tell us what manifesting is, and what you did to manifest this dream job you have?

To me, manifesting is digging deep into our soul & discovering our hopes, dreams & desires and then bringing them to fruition, making them happen!

I’d like to say manifesting my dream job was as simple as 1-2-3, but it definitely was not! It was a rollercoaster of many highs and even more lows - there was quite a bit of work that went into getting me to where I am now, but I'll try to break it down as simply as possible in these 5 steps:

1. Meditate and visualize your dream job! Be consistent and do this every morning.

2. Write New Moon intentions every month. Be specific!

What is it exactly you want in your position? What are your co-workers like? How do you feel at work? What are you doing on a day-to day basis?

3. Connect with women who inspire you! Go on Linkedin. Research. Attend events. Make lunch dates, coffee dates, yoga dates with individuals who you admire and can learn from.

4. Surrender. Remember, you are fully taken care of and you have everything you need right now. Be grateful for that.

5. Be patient and remain present. Live moment by moment and trust that the Universe is working for you and in your favor. Let go of the outcome, dwell in the now and be in the joy.

One of my favorite quotes from ACIM states, "Those who are certain of the outcome can afford to wait, and to wait without anxiety.”

Are there any moments of magic that really stick out to you through your journey?

Ah - synchronicity!  I love it! Yes!

There has been a few moments that really stand out, but my absolute favorite moment happened a few months ago.

This past March I was unexpectedly laid off of my job.

Once that happened (and the mopeyness & sadness passed) I immediately started emailing all of the companies and POCs I've networked with over the past couple of years.

I met the co-founders of Energy Muse at a women's networking event in Orange County about 2 years ago. I was drawn to their energy, their inspiring story & gorgeous crystals! They made such a remarkable, lasting impression on me that they were one of the first I emailed when I lost my job. The same day I emailed them, their marketing manager had put in her 2 week notice. It was absolutely meant-to-be & divine timing!

You are so stunning! :) Let us in on some beauty secrets you swear by.

Krista, girl, you are too sweet!

Clean eating, sufficient sleep (I need a full 8 hours!) & staying hydrated are my number one!

I'm a big fan of saying self-love affirmations quietly to myself while I'm washing/moisturizing my face:

I nourish my skin with love, gentleness & kindness

My skin glows from the inside out

I'm grateful for my inner & outer beauty

Right now I'm using Thayers Rose Petal Witch Hazel, Eminence (Eucalyptus Face Wash & Wild Plum Eye Cream), Poppy + Austin (Vitamin C Serum & Retinol Green Tea Cream) & La Lune Apothecary (Anti-Aging Serum & Cardamon Coffee Scrub) products.

I’m also am in LOVE with my jade roller, which I use almost daily by itself or with a serum! :)

**Get a jade roller here for cheap! I have one and LOVE it too!

I do at least 1 mask a week!

Either an activated charcoal mask, an indian clay mask or a florapy mask! I like to crystalize my my masks too depending on my mood! If I’m feeling like I need a detox, I might add some shungite or black tourmaline to my facial or if I’m feeling a little stressed out, I’ll add fluorite and amethyst.

You can read more about how I use crystals in my facials here.

What's your favorite crystal right now?

It's so hard to pick just one! My go-to favorites right now are:

Lepidolite - I love lepidolite and place it at the top of my third eye during svanasana - it calms me, soothes me + creates a deeper connection to my intuition. It also is a beauty stone of Cleopatra so it doesn't hurt to harness some of that lovely energy into my world :)

Black Tourmaline - I'm super sensitive to other people's energies so I always carry black tourmaline in my pocket/purse to ground me, protect me from energy vampires + rid my body of energy that doesn't serve me. Works like a charm!

Selenite - Selenite is my f a v o r i t e crystal! It cleanses my body of any stagnant energy, creating a fluid flow for clear, light energy + promotes soft healing. I use it during meditation, for aura cleanses + during my night time ritual. Every night when I lay down for bed, I place my selenite wand over my heart + solar plexus charka along with my lepidolite over my third eye. I sleep like a b a b y!

**I do that too, and LOVE IT!

Who are some women that inspire you?

First & foremost, my amazing madre inspires me!

She has always taught me to trust my intuition, even when I was a little girl she would consistently tell me, "Listen to your intuition. Listen to your gut. It is ALWAYS right.”

She really. really ingrained that into me & I appreciate it now more than ever!

All of the women in my family have had such an influence on my life! My grandmas, aunts & cousins - they've shown me what it means to embrace my feminine strengths, to honor my vulnerability & that emotions are a beautiful, beautiful thing.

There is something so special about being a woman in this lifetime & there are so many incredible women doing some pretty epic things.

I am so fortunate to be in the same realm of these women & to have them apart of my life - my managers at Energy Muse, Heather Askinosie and Timmi Jandro, Natalie Kuhn, Taryn Toomey, The New Moon Circle co-founders, Danielle Beinstein and Paula Mallis, Danielle Mercurio, Rachelle Tratt, Lulu Brud, Elissa Goodman, Cassandra Bodzak, Fern Olivia, Aimee Bello, Melissa Mizer & YOU chica!

And of course there is always Marianne Williamson, Pema Chodron, Gabby Bernstein, Oprah, Karlie Kloss, Christy Turlington, Jessica Alba, Rose-Marie Swift etc.

I LOVE them all!

What are some of your favorite mantras you use to bring yourself back to light?

I LOVE affirmations! You can catch my shouting them out loud on my way to work in my car or reciting them in the mirror in the morning :)

"I am here to bring more love, joy and light into the world."

"I radiate beauty, confidence and grace."

"I'm creating the life of my dreams, in my mind, in my world and in my heart."

During my meditations, I use Sanskrit mantras because they make me feel more connected. My go-to’s are:

Om Hakini Namaha - a mantra for activating our intuition

Om Shreem Maha Lakshmiyeh Swaha - a mantra for attracting abundance into our lives

Om Shanti – a mantra for wishing peace for all

Ishvara Pranidhana - a mantra for having blind faith that we are exactly where we need to be

What are you excited about right now?

I feel as though my soul is super charged right now!

I’m very excited about my future in general. I don’t know exactly what it may bring (although I am working on a special project, launch date TBD!), but my intuition tells me it's spectacular & I cannot wait to watch it unravel & see what this beautiful universe has in store for me!

To be a little more specific, I'd have to say my wedding!

Goodness, that is approaching quickly! I’ll be a Mrs. in February 2017, which I am over-the-moon about! And as you can imagine I will certainly be mixing some crystals in here & there :)

P.S. If there are any bride-to-be’s out there interested in using crystals, please contact me! I’ve used them for de-stressing, bridal shower activities, gifts, relationship rituals etc.

Where can people connect with you and learn more :)

I love connecting with people!

Whether you’re spiritually curious, a crystal junkie, want to learn more about intention setting, manifesting your dream job or just want to chat - I’m all yours!

You can find me at ericarachelk@gmail.com & my IG is @ericarachelk - I have a blog with a friend, Ry, but our site is currently getting a little revamp!

Okay so using those mantras ASAP, reading up on some of those amazing babes...theres so many good exercises here I just LOVE how much she shared. I am so thankful for her insight and guidance :)

Okay lots to discuss, manifesting your dream job, social media and working in that industry, affirmations, trusting your intuition. What do you think? What did you connect with?  Let me know so I can bring more to you!

Loving this, and you!!!

Inspired Ramblings: Loop thoughts

I've been having the same conversations with very different people (at very different stages in their lives) for the past few months now. All with the same undertone, idea and feeling, that of restlessness.

Y'all know where this is going! *DEEP CHATS*

Since I started my meditation practice a few years ago, I wouldn't consider myself someone that has loop nagging thoughts. Don't get me wrong I've had my share of #sundayscaries, where you're unable to essentially escape yourself.

I mean, for quite some time, it was like a constant anxiety that would keep me up and I'd be sleeping for like 3 hours a night.

Thoughts that keep you living in a type of 'virtual reality'. Where you're more in your head then where you actually are.

I was really productive then lol. UP AND AT 'EM texting people at like 5:00 AM like a psycho.

But, as I've said, in a serious way, meditation helps to calm anxiety, and that incessant feeling of being out of control of a situation. It's honestly changed my life. Not to talk about that too much, because you can read about my meditation journey here

I haven't had one of those 'cyclical thoughts' spells in so long. You know, those that are just the same thoughts with a question mark at the end every time. No actual solution is suggested, or you suggest too many solutions. You have multiple paths that you explore (again, just in your head) each possible destination further perpetuating your anxiety.

I know so many people who think like this and have these anxious thoughts. I would say, about, every one of my friends thinks like this but 5.

Just thinking off the top of my head, LOL.

These loop thoughts could be regarding your career and what you're doing in life right now. Do you continue the path you're on because it's easy, because it's safe, or because you're comfortable?

Or, do you take the leap and go outside of your comfort zone to make a step towards something that could potentially fulfill you more than your current choice?

(Money of course comes into play in various places here).

It could be thoughts related to who you're dating. Do you stay with someone you know isn't your 'person' because it's comfortable and it's too much effort to break up?. The holidays are coming and you can't imagine doing it without them so you hang on until you think it could be easier.

(J not talking about you boo).

For me it's been one of those times where I have been overcome with loop thoughts related to my career and allocation of time, that have slowly crept into my chill time and even to my sleep. (My nightmares are GNARLY. This is so fucked up, but the other night I was swimming in a pool of dead babies. NO JOKE. NOT OKAY).

This anxiety comes in waves, it's completely natural and attributed to a pivotal time in our lives. Especially in our twenties when life path choices are varied and available.

For me it's the struggle of how much time I spend doing work, or at my 9-5, with the unknown belief of how valuable what I'm doing to the world is. If I was to really think about it, is what we do in our jobs benefiting ourselves and the people around us? Or just perpetuating consumerism, and bullshit?

(I couldn't find another word there, HA).

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy in my work, but if you REALLY think about it, does what I do matter?

That's what I'm looping.

I think it's the struggle between all of the choices our generation has. With the increase in social media, we're now aware of the life paths of people we know personally and those we don't. We have more choices (and pictures of how amazing each choice is) than ever before. There are jobs and careers that never existed five years ago. Like being a blogger, or social media expert, for example.

Nowadays, you see more people boldly saying 'fuck it corporate America', and living in a random country, volunteering and finding themselves immersed in things unfamiliar.

But, there's also those people going full fledged corporate and climbing their way to the top via the daily grind. A lifestyle that provides a baseline of stability and support that will last you until you're ready for retirement.

These days you can compare and contrast your current situation with everyone else so quickly. A little bit of this job, a little bit of that career - which may seem interesting to you and could be something that would make you fulfilled. But for how long? As we evolve and age, our interests change, as well as what we want out of a 9-5. Now it could be more benefits or less hours in the office. Possibly for some, it's start-up life with no benefits, scooters in the office and dinners served free past 7 PM.

I, like many, have slowly made moves in various of areas of my life to constantly improve my awareness, and situation in both my career and personal life. As I explore more areas of interest and educate myself in places that I didn't have knowledge in before (such as climate change - swear to God) I just can't help but feel like there has to be a middle ground to finding something to do in your life, that helps more than just increase the bottom line at a company. Something that helps more than your bank account, but you and those around you.

Something you wouldn't have loop thoughts doing. But feel at peace each day, and each night, tired from the day, fulfilled from both a bank account and holistic perspective.

Is there a way to have it all, and when do you take the leap and make the move to go for it?

Will what you thought you want now change? Most situations, you think you were making the right decision before heading into it, for example in your career or love life. But then you changed, you grew and it maybe wasn't anymore.

Then what?

That, I don't know. But I would seriously love to hear your thoughts. Do you have loop thoughts, or get restless? A bit of anxiety in the daily grind? Or if you do feel fulfilled, what's the secret? Do you have your days?

Feelin' this! Let me know.
