Why you need a SELF CARE WEEK

Two weeks ago, I had the best week ever.

Honestly, I had no plans that week. I looked at my calendar and realized that there was actually no obligation for me to be anywhere, and I wasn't required to do anything.

I was elated. So I knew I had to take advantage of the opportunity, and I decided to have a reboot week, where I dedicated each day/night or time that I could to self care.

This meant one week of:

  • Prioritizing Sleep: Getting 8+ Hours each night
  • Exfoliating 3x with a body scrub
  • Turning off my phone by 7:30 PM and not touching it until 9 AM
  • Scheduling 2 cryotherapy appointments (I go to CryoZone in Santa Monica)
  • Stretching each night for at least 20 minutes
  • Yoga 3x
  • Drinking as much water as possible
  • Walking 10k steps daily, by taking walks around the block when I can or either
  • Mediating 2x daily (usually I do once)
  • Journaling in my gratitude journal for 5 minutes each morning
  • Less than 1 hour of social media time
  • 1 acupuncture appointment
  • Eating SUPER clean (using KleanLA)

As soon as I was able to get my week structured, I knew that eating clean was the key component. I needed to make sure that my diet was the foundation. Having clean, nutritious meals, where I'm eating tons of nutrient dense foods and making sure I am avoiding excess sugar and fake shit.

I've written about my love for KleanLA previously when I was preparing for a bachelorette party in Cabo here, but I do KleanLA's 6 day reset when I want to really get myself feeling great.

They have vegan, low sugar, filling, healthy, nutrient dense foods delivered to my door 3x a week, and it's some of the best food, ever. With KleanLA you're able to eat 4x a day, these amazing mini-meals that keep you full and happy.

Example Day:

Meal One
Chickpea Scramble Kale & Carrot
Mushroom, Bell Peppers & Red Onion on Spinach
Roasted Sweet Potatoes

Meal Two
Grilled Artichokes & Roasted Bell Salad
Grape Tomato, Dry Blueberries, Jicama & Cucumber on Mix Greens
Chile Lime Quinoa
Toasted Pepitas
Lime Honey Vinaigrette

Meal Three
Coconut Dijon Tarrago Butternut, Peas & Mushrooms
Haricoverts & Carrots
Brown Rice with Parsley
Lemon Wedge & Micro Flowers

Meal Four
Rice & Corn Burgers
Grilled Red Onion, Mexican Squash & Pineapple
Sweet Potato Mash
Micro Cilantro

Knowing that my meals are covered, I don't need to think about it, or stress about it, or even go to the grocery store to have the temptation of getting a treat, was the GAME changer for my week. It helped me to spend more time at home, relaxing, stretching, sleeping and journaling than I would have if I was focused on getting food each day.

IMG_1883.JPG

I cannot tell you how good it felt to really recharge. To reset, and take a step back and just nourish and love my body through movement, walking, nutrition and just s-l-o-w-i-n-g down more than I have in a long time. I felt such a calling to make plans. You have no idea, I almost texted about 3 of my friends to make plans to do something, but resisted so hard and was so proud that I allowed myself to be. To watch some TV (Queer Eye is my favorite) and to relax.

You can try KleanLA by going here to check out their meal plans, and keep an eye on The Almost 30 Podcast IG Wednesday for an exciting giveaway for one week of their Get Going Special (the one I love!)

For the babes that do not reside in LA, I would suggest that you:

  • Plan your meals ahead
  • Make them nutrient dense
  • Allow yourself more food than you want to, just make sure it's good for you
  • Buy things like sweet potatos, cauliflower rice, quinoa, carrots, cucumbers, mushrooms, veggie patties...have them on deck so you always have a healthy option
  • Try having 4 300-400 calorie meals a day (or up it if you need more!)

These are some of the foundation components of KleanLA that you can apply to your life if you're not here in Sunny CA.

Inspired? Me too! What else would you add to a self care week?

*Thanks KleanLA for partnering with me on this post!

CABO PREP SERIES: DE-BLOATING With KleanLA (tips for getting beach ready)

Hola loves!

How are ya? How was the weekend?

I went to the clippers game, comedy store, got prepared for Cabo next weekend...

Oh yes, Cabo baby!
I'm going for one of my best friend Gemmas bachelorette :) and it's going to be 6 of us total (love).

We're staying in a DOPE mansion spot on the beach, and we'll be doing Flora Farms, a boat, sunset dinners...

Any recs? I've never been! Let me know!

So, yes I completely understand the risk I take sounding so shallow by doing a mini cabo prep series.

BUT honestly, I wanted to look forward to something, and really give myself a timeline to work towards to get in REAL tight shape. If I feel good about my body I'm in a better mood, just the damn TRUTH.

Just keepin' it hundred.

Oh and did I mention that the babes on my trip are basically super models?

That's another reason to get RIGHT, ha.

With the trip coming up, I knew I had to do something in regards to food to make sure that I was going to be eating well.

Staying full, eating lightly, eating foods that are anti-inflammatory, nutritious and filling... also to try and reign it in all eating treats all day.
But when I'm eating well and it satiates me, I tend to reach for the desert way less.

So, nothing more for me to do but call KleanLA for the goods.

So this time around, I got both the Get Going Special, and the Kleanse.

For the past two weeks I've been eating their 4 meals, and the juice cleanses after.

Yes, I have been eating other things (like these Moon Juice crackers), protein shakes with avocado, choc zero (no sugar chocolate) and a few other things. But the basics of my day consist of these meals.

They're delicious and cover every nutritional base, therefore I'm surprisingly good. I don't want much else, I feel satiated and satisfied.

There are some core tenants that KleanLA follows, that I have outlined here along with what else I am doing to feel my best self! This is perfect to do once a quarter, once a month, or just when you want a reset. I noticed a major difference related to bloating, feeling too full, my skin clarity and energy.

De-bloating/anti-inflammatory eating:

Things to avoid:

Gum (it makes you feel bloated because of the fake sugars, and can make you feel hungry more often)

Kombucha (I decided to cut this out because I was drinking 1 or 2 a day!)

Milk or dairy products (dairy causes lots of inflammation in your body)

Things to add:

FIBER (lots of it)

WATER (lots of it)

Aloe Juice (great for digestion and skin, make sure it's no sugar)

Apple Cider Vinegar (makes me feel super full, and helps to balance the pH in your body)

Healthy fats (found in avocados, coconut oil, nuts - I've been doing tahini lately on EVERYTHING)

Berries (high in vitamins, and antioxidants - they're anti-inflammatory)

Vegetables (because, DUH! With each KleanLA meal I got in so many more vegetables than I would have normally)

Sleep (for real, sleeping more regulates your hormones - I loved this article on sleep, hormones and your weight you can read here)

My new favorite treats:

Moon Juice Green Fermeneted Seed Crisps

Choc Zero Zero Sugar Zero Carb Chocolate (45 calories a piece and EVERYTHING)

Raw Chocolate Bark via

Bhakti Chai (super sweet and no sugar)

What I love about KleanLA (that you can also do before a big event):

PLAN YOUR MEALS (for real, plan out what you're eating, so you can be prepared. By planning for your setbacks, you set yourself up for success. Having meals ready, is KEY for me, and doesn't allow me to go off the rails and just eat whatever is around)

Don't deprive yourself (if you're like me, you'll end up overeating later, so if I have my healthy meals planned, and even a desert planned, so that I'm eating enough. Anytime when I've tried to deprive myself, it always ends horribly and I'll binge later. With KleanLA I am eating every few hours, and I know where my meals come from, therefore I am never deprived)

Food prep (that's where KleanLA comes in for me, they do it all and it's right to my door. If you're at home though, prep your food and meals on Sunday so you're ready and set for the week)

Make it tasty (make sure you're eating food that tastes good, because if it doesn't taste good you're definitely going to want something else later - most likely something that does taste good. I can't say enough about KleanLA's meals - they are all so different, all have amazing sauces and flavors that I would NEVER make at home. If you're able to cook yourself, mix it up! To make sure you WANT to eat it, not just something you SHOULD be eating)

Keep it balanced (make sure you have fats, proteins and greens in your meals. I wrote this article on why it's a game changer you can read here)

A few of my meals this past week from KleanLA for inspo:

Meal One
Vegan Potato Cakes Stuffed with Kale & Mushrooms
 on Spinach
Asparagus, Roasted Tomato on Spinach
Potato Hashbrowns
Ketchup

Meal Two
Citrus Herb Hearts of Palm & Bell Peppers Salad
Tomato & Cucumber on Romaine
Quinoa & Quinoa
Dairy Free Ranch
Coconut “Bacon” & Chives

Meal Three
Swedish Mushroom & Quinoa Meatballs
Broccoli on Spinach
Brown Rice Fussili Pasta
Swedish Mushroom Sauce & Parsley

Meal Four
Cajun Grilled Zucchini
Okra & Tomato Wedges on Arugula
Brown Rice Pilaf & Lentils
Jambalaya Sauce

Again I've been eating meals from the Get Going Special, which provides 6 days of food. Some of my favorite meals, were the tofu scramble, cauliflower steak, sauteed mushrooms...YUM.

The second week, I got the Kleanse Special which helps me to alkalize my body, neutralize acid while boosting your metabolism. It has 6 days of food which includes 3 organic pressed juices and 2 Klean meals per day.  This is a nice transition with amazing juices as I get closer and closer to my bikini bod.

Looks so good right? What else do you do for beach prep? Any tips I missed for cleaning up your diet before a big event?

Share your secrets plz.

Next up I'll be writing about the workout schedule, y'all!

Eating 4 meals a day to lose weight - YES PLZ! KleanLA for the WIN.

Hello hello!

So I know we said we wouldn't talk about 2016, BUT, at the end of the year I wasn't feeling so hot.

Like at all. Just puffy, a little thicker than I wanted to be, and my eating was real lackluster.

I am still working on balancing my hormones (having an Almost 30 Podcast episode on that Tuesday!) and my weight's been a little of. So it's been 'one of those days' more often than not during the week.

Plus, you guys know, I hate cooking. I hate grocery shopping too. Maybe when I become a millionaire, I will love it so I can get all the $5 drinks I want, but now it's just so BLAH. I also feel like I don't have time in the day. Anyone with me? I truly use every minute of every hour to work, do something for Hundred, something for Almost 30, catching up with friends....

So a combination of hormone imbalance, and my laziness to prep healthy quality meals, has put my health on the back burner.

So when 2017 was coming, and I had my fill of Christmas cookies, and sugary treats from the holidays, I was SO READY to do this, health and eating wise.

My thoughts:

How can I make better decisions with my eating where I'm not taking a lot of time to cook and I don't need to think about it (because I don't have time).

Oh, and it also has to be vegan, and I'd love for it to be under 1700 calories a day.

Plus, it NEEDS to taste good, be organic, non-GMO and super FILLING.

Seems impossible right?

Not with KleanLA.

I was over the moon when they reached out to work with Hundred Blog - excited to try one of the best food deliveries in LA, and really reset my diet. They have a lot of different options and varieties, and even juice cleanses you can do. If you're low-carb, vegan, or neither and just want to eat better they got you covered!

I got the Get Going Special which is 6 days of meals - vegan :)

What's different about KleanLA is that they give you 4 meals a day.

Yes, you can lose weight and eat 4 meals a day.

It's literally LIFE CHANGING.

With KleanLA each meal is around 300-400 calories, which keeps the daily total around 1350 calories which is (for me) way less than my normal 2000 calories.

Oh and for a girl that's always hungry, eating 4 meals I was SO FULL.

Seriously. Most days, before KleanLA I would do my morning smoothie, eat a snack around 10:30, eat a lunch around 12, be hungry around 2:30, eat a snack, want to eat dinner at 5, then actually eat dinner around 6:30 - STARVING.

LOL.

So to be able to eat a breakfast, a meal at 11 AM, then again at 3 PM, and a dinner around 6 PM - all filling healthy, nourishing meals is a GAME CHANGER.

Can't even tell you.

To tell a person that is trying to lose some extra love that they can eat 4 meals a day - is EVERYTHING.

Oh and let me tell you about the actual meals themselves. Because I would have NEVER made them at home.

How amazing does that food look? I kept getting surprised when I would eat the food. Like, okay I never thought of this flavor, this combination and I don't normally eat this, but I'm INTO IT!

I heated each one up because it tasted better warm (from my perspective) and put it on a plate so it felt so FANC-AY.

Again, the plan that I did with KleanLA was the 'Get Going' special. Like I said, its 4 meals a day, for 6 days. Totaling 24 total meals that are non-GMO, vegan, colorful, healthy, filling and nutrient dense.

You can also get non-vegan meals, no carb meals and meals for the family too!

Justin is going to try out the non-vegan ones, so he can eat more food during the day, without cooking/thinking about it.

What I did with the 6 days of meals, was broke deliveries up into 3 days at a time, so that for two weeks, on Monday and Wednesday I had my meals arrive in their cooler safe packages at my door (the delivery was perfect).

If you can't tell already how much I love, then you must know, that physically, I feel so much better guys.

Lighter, more nourished, full of energy and I am taking a lot of the principles I learned with me. The main being that, you can eat SO MUCH healthy food and stay within a calorie limit. Lost a few lbs too but hey WHOSE COUNTING!

(me everyday).

Protein bars, shakes, butters, etc. can be so calorie dense that you're not eating a lot but you're getting in a shit load of calories. This really struck me that I'm having a full blown meal for the same amount  of calories as one of the protein bars I eat. Seems crazy right?

I am so glad to have worked with KleanLA and super excited for you guys to try it, explore their site and check out some of their options.

If you're not ready to do the full Get Going Special, you can do a day's worth of food, eat those 4 meals in a day, or even have two meals a day for two days.

Think about how much time you'll have if you're not thinking about what to eat for lunch or dinner.

CRAZY.

All about time hacks!

Okay, questions? Thoughts? Let's discuss. REALLY happy with this, and excited to share a brand that I really love with ya. A new fav.

xoxoxo
