WELP HERE GOES NOTHING: The Almost 30 Podcast (!!)

Oh my goodness guys.

I never thought this day would come. 

Can I be super excited about something for a second? 

(blushing emoji)

So you know i am a huge podcast fanatic, and listen to about 5 hours of podcasts a day. NO JOKE. During my run, when I am walking anywhere, when I am working or driving, it's ON.

I talked about my favorite episodes, and favorite podcasts here.

I also interviewed The Lady Gang a while back (LOVE THEM!) and really have been interested in the medium (is that what you'd call it?) for a while.


Why podcasting:

Because as much as I love the blog, I love the emotion and flow of speaking, and feel like this is connecting with readers, not in front of a screen. 

I know how much we are in front of screens on the daily and to be able to have a conversation with you via the podcast is pretty much the best thing ever. I've always said I want to TALK to people, or have people really know me aside from photos or what I write. The podcast is that.

Also a podcast removes the visual aspect of it, where you get to know the real me and my real personality.

How I talk, the cadence of my speech and what I really think about topics we discuss.

It's also perfect that I'm doing this with Lindsey.

A true inspiration in my life, and SO MANY others lives through SoulCycle (she literally is a fitness queen in L.A.) fit modeling, acting, whatever. She's the perfect ying to my yang. Thoughtful, aware, funny and just on the same page as me with shit.

She brings good life advice, good career advice, fitness/health advice, and she's single. So her insight on dating and love is unique to mine. 

Which is so key! 

I've written about Lindsey here, and featured an article that she did on what she eats in a day. She's a funny chick, and makes all the difference in this podcast. It's nice have two perspectives on every question or conversation. 

So a bit more about the podcast and process in this post!


Behind the scenes:

We've been working on this for about 6 months now, idea sharing, recording, deleting, practicing, basically everything with trial and error.

Finding what works and what feels right and going for it.

We also created the website (I did all the backend and design) and then had photo shoots for our branding, created a Facebook page, found a sound engineer, figured out how to actually get a podcast on iTunes. 

We also have our Instagram we created!

It's been a process for sure!

Oh and working in our schedules when to record had us up on weekends at 7 A.M. 

It's definitely not easy, but we'll talk about our launch in one of our mini-sodes which we'll be sharing weekly, and are shorter episodes to answer questions from you.

But if you have any about the process, let a girl know! I got you!


What The Almost 30 Podcast is about:

Being authentic and real. As much as I am on the blog, and then some. Being able to speak exactly the truth that I want, has been amazing.

We're about figuring this crazy part of life together. Dating, career, friends, health...we talk about everything that we actually talk about IRL.

Honestly, you're twenties and thirties are UNDERRATED challenging.

Like our tagline says, it's when shit gets real. 

Seriously!
You choose your life partner, you choose your career, you choose where to live. Your priorities change so much from 20 to 30, and you are a different person at the end of it.

I feel like, no one ever talks about this time, and how many choices we have. So we want to explore that. 


The format:

For most episodes we follow a format, but sometimes we have guests on, and sometimes we'll do mini episodes where we just answer a question. Trying to keep it spicy!

Hundred/Not Hundred: SO ME RIGHT? Hehe - this is our highs and lows of the week, what we loved and what we hated. What's hundred, and what's not hundred. 

Shit that stuck: This is the deep part of the podcast where we talk about things that inspire us, and make us excited. It's the 'shit that stuck' with us for the week that we want to share with you. 

20s Us 30s Us: This is a hilarious look on what we were doing in our twenties, to what we want or what we're scared of in our 30s. 

Most importantly, we answer question from our listeners (you!)

I'd love to have you join the podcast, and ask a question that we should answer about ANYTHING. Nothings too crazy, or specific or too small. We've talked about dieting, periods, boyfriends, career...anything under the sun.

My favorite podcast episodes ever + an outfit to kick it in

Oh hello you!

So glad you're here. What's up? How are you? 

I've been wanting to share a list of my favorite podcasts (specific episodes!) with you forever! 

I the biggest fan of podcasts. It's like, my way of multi-tasking. I listen when I do almost everything, seriously. When I clean, when I'm chilling, when I'm walking... it keeps me:

  • Up to date with the world
  • Informed of new trends and topics
  • Interested in people 
  • Interesting in conversations

I know all I know because of podcasts probably. I wrote about my favorites here!

But in this post I want to write about the episodes that really stuck with me.

Oh and did I mention I'm doing a podcast?

With my friend Lindsey Simcik, that'll be launching in the next few weeks. I just finished making the website (my fourth website I've made!) and it's called the Almost Thirty Podcast. It's about your twenties and thirties, and how it's such a interesting and pivotal time in life. We'll bring on guests, answer questions, and chat about topics like 20's us/30's us, and Hundred/Not Hundred.

But anyway, if you don't do podcasts, DO! In the car, wherever. These are 5 of my favorite episodes from the past few months.


Podcast Episodes to listen to now:

Tara Brach is my girl. She's calming, present and speaks on topics that relate to spirituality, mindfulness and joy. Once a week she'll post a really good guided meditation. If you've never meditated this is a great way to get into it. It's only 5 minutes, so I use it to come back to presence. 

I really LOVED this podcast. It was great to hear the hosts talk in detail about a creative lifestyle, and balancing your creative life with your personal life. They asked some really good questions about what you need to be happy, and I felt like it just really flowed. This would be especially good for anyone whose a blogger or creative.

Rich Roll is my dude. Always dropping knowledge and keeping me up to date with important and thoughtful topics. This one in particular hit home because it's on a topic that I know little about. The fashion industry. Here Andrew Morgan talks about 'fast fashion' and the effect that super cheap clothing has on our environment, economy and world. 

Not sure if you saw my dope interview with The LadyGang - but these babes KILL ME. I love them. Listen to all their podcasts but this one in particular made me chuckle. 

I actually felt neutral about Chelsea Handler until this episode. She is so rad, for real. She owns her life, she's honest, but she also shows this really soft raw side of her, that's loving and open. I loved hearing the contrast between her and Anna (who is super sweet!) 

For real Shaun White is HILARIOUS. I had never known his story, how he rose to fame and how he made a BUSINESS out of it. Capitalizing on his Gold Medals to build a life that outlasts those moments. This one's a good one, and super entertaining.

Keegan Michael Key of Key and Peele is a true Legend. Hilarious, warm, and charismatic, hearing him do improv on this podcast is the coolest thing. He's super creative and HILARIOUS, I was crying laughing listening to it.

How to be happy for no reason (REAL TALK)

'sup guys!

Love this one for a MONDAY. Truly a life changer.

First, how was your weekend? Did you do anything fun?

I worked basically all weekend, but that's good every once in a while! I also shot a LOT last week. With Danika my girl, for Ethona an Activewear line in Venice and then for a project I have coming up. It's interesting now with photos that I care less about what they look like - it's like more objective when I see pictures. Like, okay that angle is my hell, or like I should probably be more relaxed here, this looks good etc. Bloggers ya feel me?

So to the post! This is the realest and inspired by one of my favorite podcasts, Tara Brach, who does meditations and teachings that seriously calm and change my life. I would highly recommend the 10 minute meditation for beginners, which I linked in my meditation post.

This is my and almost everyone's life. 

Living, and thinking, I will be happy IF this happens to me.

'If' I get this job. 'If' I start dating this person. 'If' I get this apartment. 'If' I lose the weight. "If' I buy X, Y or Z.

Then. 

I will be happy. 

How often do we do that?

Personally, I find myself often saying that I will be happy once I: accomplish something with Hundred, make this amount of money, lose 10 pounds....

Once my friend Adam asked me how I was feeling, and I said 'I just want to lose these 7 pounds', and he said,

'You've always said I want to lose 7 pounds since I've known you. Maybe you should let it go.'

We've known each other for 6 years HA.

MIC DROP.

SO DAMN TRUE!

I'm just being honest.

It's the toxicity of thinking, if this happens, or this situation changes, then I will be happy. Until then I am living in limbo and out of this moment. 

I actually notice this a lot with my friends too. This moment, is not okay, but when something else happens, in two years, when I get married, when I have kids, when we have money, when I have this job... THEN I will be content.

But does that ever really happen? Think about when something in your life went REALLY your way. You actually did get that job or started to date that person...

You never stay as happy as you were when you first got it. Then, you find something else to chase after.

It's how humans work.

I know thats how I normally operate.

Buddhism provides two definitions for happiness. One is defined in terms of our relation to an object, while the other is defined in terms of our relation with the state of mind of the feeling itself.

Please read below:

The first defines happiness as the experiencing of something in a satisfying manner, based on believing that it is of benefit to ourselves, whether or not it actually is. Unhappiness is the experiencing of something in an unsatisfying, tormenting way. We experience something neutrally when it is in neither a satisfying nor a tormenting way.

The second defines happiness as that feeling which, when it has ended, we wish to meet with it once more. Unhappiness as that feeling which, when it arises, we wish to be parted from it. While a neutral feeling is that feeling which, when it arises or ends, we have neither of the two wishes.

Basically the first is worldly happiness. Or happiness that comes with what we are experiencing through the senses. It's fleeting, it's when we experience life being a certain way.

It's happiness, with a cause.

The second, SUKHA is an unconditioned happiness that isn't dependent on anything. When people say they are CHOOSING to be happy, this is what they mean. You are happy for no reason. Nothing worldly or out of your control can keep you from that happiness. 

This is freedom.



Freedom is, reminding yourself that even without the things you crave, or are working towards - on this journey you DECIDE to happy.

Because nothing is guaranteed. No day, achievement, or 'it'. 

Things we want, we may or may not get, and if we weren't happy along the way, then whats the point?

So how am I applying this in my daily life? Every time I think about the things that I want or strive for, I remind myself that, now I am happy. On the journey to those things, or if those things never come to fruition, I am happy.

With or without 'it' I am filled with joy.

Deep right?
