Easy breezy breakfast that takes 2.5 seconds (+ has protein, & superfoods!)

Guys,

I know sometimes you read my blog and think, "wow Krista is a total expert in cooking and baking". She posts such fabulous homemade cooking and food posts (aka cleansing and protein bars that I just buy). With all the difficult recipes I whip up, it seems like that. I know.

But. Sigh, *SHOCKER* I'm really not any expert at all.

LOL.

I've done VERY few posts on food, and it's for smoothies, or awesome protein bars.

I just don't do cook.

I eat too much food when I am waiting for the food to cook, period the end.

I don't have a big kitchen and I don't enjoy it or have supplies.

Those are my thoughts.

This recipe I shared with some friends and they were really into it, and wanted to share with you!

Why I LOVE THIS:

It's so easy.

It's so delicious.

Its super affordable.

It's low in sugar, packed with super foods and tastes like chocolate amazingness.

Trader Joe's is awesome for bulk foods, but also ordering online means you don't leave the house. AYYY!!

So here we are!

Recipe for a super easy, filling, affordable, grab and go chocolate protein chia seed breakfast, that takes 2.5 seconds to make.

What you need:

Chia Seeds, about a 1/3rd cup

Hemp Seeds, about a half cup

Flax Seeds (I like ground better), about 1/4th cup

Vega Sport Chocolate and Greens Protein Powder, one scoop

Almond Milk, about a 1/2 cup, but really just do as much as you'd like (I love the 365 brand from Whole Foods)

A hipster mason jar because plastic is SO OUT

Where to get supplies:

What you need to do:

  • Throw everything in a jar, and mix it up so that it's a soupy consistency.

  • The chia seeds will absorb the liquid to become a mouse like texture overnight.

  • After stirring it up, throw it in the fridge.

  • et Viola!

  • Take with you to work, or just eat it in the morning!

I have been taking it with me to go in the morning and it's so freaking good.

You can add other stuff to it too. Whatever you'd like, goji berries, cinnamon, or fruit. Feel free to make it your own!

Do you guys have any super easy recipes that you use in the morning? Would love to hear your routine!

P.S. Almost there! It's THURSDAY!

xoxo

BOMB Protein Bars + 12 FREE for YOU!

Oh hello, you!

Hows' the week? Feeling crazy that it's April, no?! I'm so excited today to write about an awesome giveaway for you guys, that I think you'll really like - and is super easy to enter!

I'm not sure if you know this, but if I could live on green juices and protein bars, I would. Truly. I would eat 14 a day and drink smoothies and juices and be happy as a clam. If I could also eat pancakes and chipotle once a week I would be even MORE happy with life.

I eat protein bars for breakfast, and during that in between time after lunch before dinner (I have dinner at 6 on the dot because I am basically a retiree). But I get super hungry in between so need something, filling, easy and tasty.

When you should eat protein bars:

In the morning, for breakfast that's under under 300 calories

After a workout to ensure you're getting something that has the appropriate mix of protein, fats and carbs

For a snack, in between lunch and dinner to hold you over

As a desert (what I do!) Under 300 calories, it will satisfy a mean sweet tooth

I think it's the fact that they bars are sweet, filling, flavorful and full of nutrients and proteins that make protein bars so amazing.

Plus being vegan, it’s a great source and way for me to get my protein in. I’ve been on the hunt for good tasting vegan bars, but it’s pretty hard to get something that’s flavorful and delicious, that doesn’t have whey.

Medical News Today says:

Whey is the milk protein that gives most protein bars their flavor, protein and allows them to be no sugar. They also are what makes your tunny ache because it has lactose. Milk is made of two proteins, casein and whey. Whey protein can be separated from the casein in milk or formed as a by-product of cheese making.

I've been a connoisseur of all flavors and types (I sound like a total loser saying this but ok), in my search I was super happy to find a hearty, delicious, super healthy and good on the go, protein bar from PROBAR.

PROBAR is the maker of healthy, plant based, convenient products for people - and they're committed to sustainability AND good taste. It's important that what you're eating is organic, or has no genetically modified ingredients, so you know that what you're putting in your body is the best food possible.

They make a variety of things. PROBAR Bite, Fuel, Base, Jolt, Meal and Base. I went with Base, just simply for the high protein content, because I want that hearty taste, that's filling and has lots of protein.

Why I am so obsessed with these bars.

PROBAR Base bars are:

No GMO

Vegan

Filling

High in Protein

Filled with Chia and Flax seeds

Filling, with 4g of Fiber

Gluten Free

PLUS: They taste SO GOOD

The texture is a bit chewy, but mostly crunchy with a chocolate coating on the outside. There's SO MANY good flavors, and included in the variety pack (that I hope you win!), you can try each. I loved the chocolate supergreens, chocolate peanut butter and cookie dough - like insane amounts. There's also chocolate bliss, and coffee buzz (which even has caffeine!)

I think my favorite aspect of the bars is that they're super filling (as I mentioned). You feel satisfied, but also like you just had a treat.

P.S. I love treats.

It's good for you, with real ingredients and you feel satiated after. What more can you ask for?

Delicious and nutritious - Vegan protein shakes for the WIN.

Oh hello you!

On this Monday, I wanted to write a little recipe post. (Key word, little).

I've been inspired by some of the things you can make with basic chocolate or vanilla vegan protein powders. Protein powder is SO filling, high in protein (duh), high in fiber, low in calories and low in sugar. It's like the perfect treat, and when mixed the right way, tastes SOO good.

A few benefits of vegan protein:

  • It contains high levels of branched-chain amino acids to help boost the immune system.
  • It increases the production of glutathione, which is a natural antioxidant in the body.
  • It's absorbed rapidly in the intestines which results in a nice rise of amino acids and helps recovery after workouts faster.
  • Dietary glutamine plays a key role by helping to maintain muscle mass!
  • Vegan protein enhances glycogen, which promote healing, and increase growth hormone levels and help prevent muscle catabolism (which is when your body eats your muscles for energy - no bueno!)
  • Vegan protein has no lactose, which is much easier on the stomach!
  • Leucine, isoleucine and valine are essential amino acids that play important roles in muscle tissue repair.
  • It keeps you full (super high in fiber!)
  • It's sweet to taste which can help curb sugar/sweet cravings (MY LIFE).

As I mentioned in a few previous posts, throwing things in a blender is probably the extent of me cooking, LOL. #sad

I'm a huge fan of having a shake when I want something sweet. Like in the afternoon when I want sugar (basically after every meal I want sugar), and need a little something before dinner. It's also been said that you should eat protein 20-45 minutes after a workout, which provides an opportune time to drink a shake too.

For me, they're just really filling, nutritious, and keep me from overeating between meals.

I've been really loving these three shakes lately, with proteins from my friends at Sun Warrior and Vega Sport. Two awesome brands for vegan protein.

I think it's important to note, that even if you're not vegan, this type of protein is super easy to digest and much smoother (to me) than whey. Whey is basically a highly concentrated milk, and like most milks and lactose can give most adults a stomachache. (You can read more about that here). Vegan proteins here (which are based on hemp seeds, quinoa, pea protein, etc.) are an amazing option.

Enjoy three amazing, nutritious, cool, smooth, sweet and tasty vegan shakes my babes!

Also, do you have any recipes for shakes? Please share below! I'd love to mix it up :)

xx

First: my favorite vegan proteins are:

Sun Warrior, which tastes SO GOOD. It's super smooth, flavorful, low in calories, high in protein and super low in sugar. It has a super high amino acid profile.

Sun Warrior Protein has:

Medium chain triglycerides from coconut then join this dynamic fusion to create a unique, plant-based protein with a complete amino acid profile exceptionally rich in Arginine, Lysine, Leucine, and branched chain amino acids.

Sun Warrior Protein - Vanilla

Sun Warrior Protein - Chocolate

Vega Sport has a variety of flavors, and is super popular. I'm a fan of the Vega Sport Performance Sport kind.

Vega Sport Performance Protein has:

  • 30 grams of protein (!)
  • 6 grams of BCAA's
  • 6 grams of glutamine
  • Probiotics

Vega Sport Performance Protein Powder Vanilla

Vega Sport Performance Protein Powder Chocolate

Vega Sport Performance Protein Powder Mocha

Also make sure to get a NutriBullet, it's around $100 dollars and is so clutch. I use it almost everyday, it's easy to clean and blends and mixes everything to perfection.

NutriBullet Blender

Secret green chocolate smoothie:

Ingredients:

  • One large handful of kale, or spinach (or both!)
  • One scoop of chocolate protein of your choice
  • 2 organic dates (if you'd like)
  • 8 fl oz of almond milk
  • 1 frozen banana
  • Pinch of cinnamon

Throw it all in a blender (or we have a NutriBullet which we love) and enjoy!

Turmeric Carrot Protein Shake:

We know I am a huge fan of turmeric, and this is such good way to get it in! Plus, it's a recipe that you may have never heard of! It's smooth and the mango adds sweet to make it taste amazing.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 tablespoon of turmeric (fresh or spiced)
  • 1/2 cup of grated carrot
  • 3/4 cup mango
  • 1/2 cup of ice
  • 1 cup of water

Once again, blend until smooth baby.

Little Buzz, Coffee Shake Smoothie:

For a little pep in your step and some more protein, this seriously tastes like desert! I love it in the AM after a workout for a little buzz.

Ingredients:

  • 8 fl oz of almond milk
  • 4 fl oz of iced coffee (I love the kind from Whole Foods the cold brew, that you can buy for $8 dollars, or the blue bottle coffee is SO GOOD)
  • 1 scoop of vanilla, chocolate or mocha protein powder (I prefer chocolate!)
  • Pinch of cinnamon

Blend it all together and enjoy!

**Huge thanks to Sun Warrior and Vega Sport for sponsoring this post! Proud to work with brands i love.
