How to feel full and energized all day with the BEST breakfast ever (ft. PlantFusion Protein)

Are you guys in any Facebook groups on FB?

I’m in a few and I feel like one of the questions that always comes up is about vegan protein. What’s the best, what tastes good, and what brand does everyone love?

This one has come up in the Almost 30 Podcast Secret Group, more than once. There’s so many brands out there, it’s hard to choose. I’ve tried them all – you name it sistah.

But I've decided and committed, that PlantFusion Vegan protein is my FAVORITE thing.

Okay WHY is it my favorite thing?

  • I didn’t know it was possible to feel so full from a protein powder: SERIOUSLY. Leveraging the Fab 4 Smoothie Method from Kelly LeVeque of Be Well By Kelly (make sure to listen to the Almost 30 Podcast episodes) I can stay full for at least 4-5 hours. Let me break down the Fab 4 if you aren’t familiar in a sec.
  • It’s SO SMOOTH. It makes super smooth, buttery soft, silky smoothies. If my smoothie isn’t thick AF I don’t want it, and the consistently is on freaking point.
  • It has everything you need it in and then some:
    • It’s the only plant-based protein shake that compares to whey: enhanced with 4500mg of branched chain amino acids (BCAA) and 3,350mg of glutamine, PlantFusion is a complete and extremely potent source of protein. It’s the first plant-based protein that compares to animal proteins (like whey) in amino acid density and balance.
      • It’s SUPER nutrient-dense: it has a 21 grams of protein + amino acids and only 120 calories.
      • MAJOR KEY. It’s free of all major allergens: No dairy, soy, gluten (wheat), eggs, nuts, fish, tree nuts, or shellfish. There’s no artificial flavors and preservatives.
      • One of my favorite parts it that it’s easy to Digest: It contains a proprietary blend of enzymes to ensure anyone can digest it. With other proteins I’ve had a bloated belly, been uncomfortable, but not with this one.
  • I can buy it on Amazon Prime (2-day shipping for life).
  • The flavor, again by far my favorite. I’ve had some that doesn’t taste like anything, or just isn’t good, and I really look forward to my shake every day. You can buy a $10 sample kit, here
  • Making a shake in the morning is such a quick easy way to get a great filling breakfast in, and set myself up for a good day. It keeps my blood sugar stable, and is s super easy to make.
  • I can bring the $10 sample kits with me when I travel so that I'm staying right on the go.

I love it so much that, sometimes I find myself STALKING group threads, because I feel like I need to tell everyone about PlantFusion. It’s like a hobby of mine.

I’m cool right?

Although this post is in partnership with PlantFusion, I would have written this anyway, because it’s hands down my favorite protein powder I’ve ever used and I won’t use another since I started having it.

I look forward to my shakes in the morning. Even when it's done, I am looking forward to the next smoothie the next day. I love how they make me feel full, they give me energy, I don't feel bloated and it's SO DELICIOUS.

Because me with protein powders, I’ve seriously, had them ALL.

I’ve been vegetarian for over 10 years, vegan for 2 and I’ve been making smoothies and shakes for a real long time.

I’ve enjoyed some of them, and not enjoyed some of them, but I never really thought I could love one as much as this.

Along with Plantfusion, I leverage the Fab 4 Methodology when I make my shake.

Again, you must listen to the Kelly episode ASAP because she breaks down why you need to have one smoothie a day to kick start a healthy lifestyle.

Kelly’s Fab Four:

Fat: Fat doesn’t make you fat! Rather, it helps your body produce hormones; is essential for the absorption of vitamins A, D, E and K; increases insulin sensitivity so your muscles absorb glucose more efficiently instead of storing it as fat; makes meals more satisfying so you can stay full longer without dips in blood sugar.

Greens: The health benefits of green leafy vegetables comprise an extensive list, but they ultimately cleanse the blood and fuel the body with oxygen.

Fiber: health benefits of fiber include reducing the incidence of heart disease, lowering cholesterol, blood pressure, glucose levels and inflammation, and even weight loss.

Protein: This is where Plant Fusion comes in. Eat Protein in the Morning. People who got 35 grams of protein at breakfast were less hungry throughout the day and saw favorable changes in the hormones and brain signals that control appetite.

All 4 of these things are tools in your tool belt that can be a game changer for the way you feel about your breakfast, and the way you feel about your day. Stable blood sugars help improve mood and provide a foundation for clear decision making. A diet high in fiber can. Healthy fats can.

Protein is the building block.

Again, so excited to share this with you guys. YES I did this in partnership with PlantFusion but I’ve never felt better about sharing with you (if I haven’t shared it already!)

ENJOY and let me know your favorite smoothie recipes pls!

*P.S. Running a giveaway of PlantFusion over on Instagram! Head over there to win!

Thanks for PlantFusion for partnering with me on this post! All opinions are my own.

Easy breezy breakfast that takes 2.5 seconds (+ has protein, & superfoods!)

I know sometimes you read my blog and think, "wow Krista is a total expert in cooking and baking". She posts such fabulous homemade cooking and food posts (aka cleansing and protein bars that I just buy). With all the difficult recipes I whip up, it seems like that. I know.

But. Sigh, *SHOCKER* I'm really not any expert at all.

I've done VERY few posts on food, and it's for smoothies, or awesome protein bars.

I just don't do cook.

I eat too much food when I am waiting for the food to cook, period the end.

I don't have a big kitchen and I don't enjoy it or have supplies.

Those are my thoughts.

This recipe I shared with some friends and they were really into it, and wanted to share with you!

It's so easy.

It's so delicious.

Its super affordable.

It's low in sugar, packed with super foods and tastes like chocolate amazingness.

Trader Joe's is awesome for bulk foods, but also ordering online means you don't leave the house. AYYY!!

So here we are!

Recipe for a super easy, filling, affordable, grab and go chocolate protein chia seed breakfast, that takes 2.5 seconds to make.

What you need:

Chia Seeds, about a 1/3rd cup

Hemp Seeds, about a half cup

Flax Seeds (I like ground better), about 1/4th cup

Vega Sport Chocolate and Greens Protein Powder, one scoop

Almond Milk, about a 1/2 cup, but really just do as much as you'd like (I love the 365 brand from Whole Foods)

A hipster mason jar because plastic is SO OUT

Where to get supplies:

What you need to do:

  • Throw everything in a jar, and mix it up so that it's a soupy consistency.

  • The chia seeds will absorb the liquid to become a mouse like texture overnight.

  • After stirring it up, throw it in the fridge.

  • et Viola!

  • Take with you to work, or just eat it in the morning!

I have been taking it with me to go in the morning and it's so freaking good.

You can add other stuff to it too. Whatever you'd like, goji berries, cinnamon, or fruit. Feel free to make it your own!

Do you guys have any super easy recipes that you use in the morning? Would love to hear your routine!

P.S. Almost there! It's THURSDAY!

Delicious and nutritious - Vegan protein shakes for the WIN.

Oh hello you!

On this Monday, I wanted to write a little recipe post. (Key word, little).

I've been inspired by some of the things you can make with basic chocolate or vanilla vegan protein powders. Protein powder is SO filling, high in protein (duh), high in fiber, low in calories and low in sugar. It's like the perfect treat, and when mixed the right way, tastes SOO good.

A few benefits of vegan protein:

  • It contains high levels of branched-chain amino acids to help boost the immune system.
  • It increases the production of glutathione, which is a natural antioxidant in the body.
  • It's absorbed rapidly in the intestines which results in a nice rise of amino acids and helps recovery after workouts faster.
  • Dietary glutamine plays a key role by helping to maintain muscle mass!
  • Vegan protein enhances glycogen, which promote healing, and increase growth hormone levels and help prevent muscle catabolism (which is when your body eats your muscles for energy - no bueno!)
  • Vegan protein has no lactose, which is much easier on the stomach!
  • Leucine, isoleucine and valine are essential amino acids that play important roles in muscle tissue repair.
  • It keeps you full (super high in fiber!)
  • It's sweet to taste which can help curb sugar/sweet cravings (MY LIFE).

As I mentioned in a few previous posts, throwing things in a blender is probably the extent of me cooking, LOL. #sad

I'm a huge fan of having a shake when I want something sweet. Like in the afternoon when I want sugar (basically after every meal I want sugar), and need a little something before dinner. It's also been said that you should eat protein 20-45 minutes after a workout, which provides an opportune time to drink a shake too.

For me, they're just really filling, nutritious, and keep me from overeating between meals.

I've been really loving these three shakes lately, with proteins from my friends at Sun Warrior and Vega Sport. Two awesome brands for vegan protein.

I think it's important to note, that even if you're not vegan, this type of protein is super easy to digest and much smoother (to me) than whey. Whey is basically a highly concentrated milk, and like most milks and lactose can give most adults a stomachache. (You can read more about that here). Vegan proteins here (which are based on hemp seeds, quinoa, pea protein, etc.) are an amazing option.

Enjoy three amazing, nutritious, cool, smooth, sweet and tasty vegan shakes my babes!

Also, do you have any recipes for shakes? Please share below! I'd love to mix it up :)

First: my favorite vegan proteins are:

Sun Warrior, which tastes SO GOOD. It's super smooth, flavorful, low in calories, high in protein and super low in sugar. It has a super high amino acid profile.

Sun Warrior Protein has:

Medium chain triglycerides from coconut then join this dynamic fusion to create a unique, plant-based protein with a complete amino acid profile exceptionally rich in Arginine, Lysine, Leucine, and branched chain amino acids.

Sun Warrior Protein - Vanilla

Sun Warrior Protein - Chocolate

Vega Sport has a variety of flavors, and is super popular. I'm a fan of the Vega Sport Performance Sport kind.

Vega Sport Performance Protein has:

  • 30 grams of protein (!)
  • 6 grams of BCAA's
  • 6 grams of glutamine
  • Probiotics

Vega Sport Performance Protein Powder Vanilla

Vega Sport Performance Protein Powder Chocolate

Vega Sport Performance Protein Powder Mocha

Also make sure to get a NutriBullet, it's around $100 dollars and is so clutch. I use it almost everyday, it's easy to clean and blends and mixes everything to perfection.

NutriBullet Blender

Secret green chocolate smoothie:

  • One large handful of kale, or spinach (or both!)
  • One scoop of chocolate protein of your choice
  • 2 organic dates (if you'd like)
  • 8 fl oz of almond milk
  • 1 frozen banana
  • Pinch of cinnamon

Throw it all in a blender (or we have a NutriBullet which we love) and enjoy!

Turmeric Carrot Protein Shake:

We know I am a huge fan of turmeric, and this is such good way to get it in! Plus, it's a recipe that you may have never heard of! It's smooth and the mango adds sweet to make it taste amazing.

  • 1/2 tablespoon of turmeric (fresh or spiced)
  • 1/2 cup of grated carrot
  • 3/4 cup mango
  • 1/2 cup of ice
  • 1 cup of water

Once again, blend until smooth baby.

Little Buzz, Coffee Shake Smoothie:

For a little pep in your step and some more protein, this seriously tastes like desert! I love it in the AM after a workout for a little buzz.

  • 8 fl oz of almond milk
  • 4 fl oz of iced coffee (I love the kind from Whole Foods the cold brew, that you can buy for $8 dollars, or the blue bottle coffee is SO GOOD)
  • 1 scoop of vanilla, chocolate or mocha protein powder (I prefer chocolate!)
  • Pinch of cinnamon

Blend it all together and enjoy!

**Huge thanks to Sun Warrior and Vega Sport for sponsoring this post! Proud to work with brands i love.
