BC WE'RE ALL BUSY AND WANT TO EAT WELL: meal delivery with Thistle

If you're new here, hi! WELCOME.

So glad to see you!

If you're an OG Hundred reader, then welcome back, bae.

If you follow me on Instagram, you've seen me share and talk about my obsession with meal delivery. I cannot speak on how it's changed my life enough.

I love meal delivery because it saves you time, it saves you money (because then I am not buying random $5 drinks at the store) and allows you to eat well, without question.

I am passionate about it. PASSIONATE.

Right now I have a full time job, I have Hundred Blog and The Almost 30 Podcast.

This is three jobs that I manage along with a boyfriend (who I manage too hehe) and friends.

I workout 6 days a week, and really try to take self care seriously.

Meaning, that when I do a meal delivery, like when I did a week of Thistle two weeks back, I get back time in my day that I can apply to self care rituals that I wouldn't normally have time for.

YUP. Meal delivery is self care for me.

By having my fridge stocked with healthy meals which I can grab whenever I need, I have ZERO stress if I am going to get a healthy meal in. I also have ZERO stress that I need to go to the grocery store. I also have ZERO stress that I don't need to get in my car, walk around Whole Foods, see people I know when I am basically wearing pajama clothes in public and spend $100 on things I don't even end up eating.

Thistle originally started in the San Francisco Bay Area, but with the success of their healthy meal delivery plans they’ve recently expanded south to Los Angeles! The whole idea behind Thistle is to offer/deliver nutritionist-designed meals straight to peoples homes for less than the price of eating a meal out. Every week their chefs create new menus (all gluten and dairy free) that are made with the highest quality ingredients and superfoods.

You can choose between 3, 4, or 5 days worth of food and you can choose to have just one type of meal covered (like just lunches), you can choose two, you can add snacks, or you can have them all! Don’t let the subscription component scare you; you can skip any week or cancel at any time with no commitment.

Having the stress of figuring out my next meal completely removed from my life has been a game changer, and I will continue to use Thistle each week when I'm in L.A., with 6 meals total sent on Mondays and Wednesdays.

I mean if you think about it, how often do you buy groceries and never eat them? Poor carrots, man. Those things always die in my fridge. I have the best intentions with them but never follow through eating them.

Plus, I am not a fan of cooking, just don't have the space, or time, or willpower to make something delicious for me every night. For others, they see it as meditative. For me, I see meditation as meditative, hehe.

With Thistle, the meals are SO good. Like, I could never make this at home and it would be THE thing that I would buy on the menu going out to eat, every time. Some of the meals are more hearty, summer soups with sweet potato, or amazing salads like the Jackfruit Fajitas one I had today.

They also have the nutritional facts on the front which I am really into. Although I don't live and die by nutrition facts, I do like to have a basic understanding of what I am putting in my body each day.

I try to generally stay around 1800-2200 calories a day (which I know for some people could be high or low, but it's personal). On Thistle packaging there is also a fact about the nutrition in the salad, so you learn a little, too. I love that.

So last week during my week of eating Thistle, I ate EVERYTHING, and felt fucking fab.

Honestly, the ingredients are super clean, labelled on everything, and it's all vegan, non-GMO and gluten free. Again, they have non-vegan options if that's your jam too. But I would highly recommend trying a few vegan meals a week.

Some example items I had:

Tomato-Nectarine Panzanella Salad: A summery salad, made with ripe nectarines and heirloom tomatoes, complete with gluten-free croutons, pickled red onion, and our aromatic basil vinaigrette.

Colorful Beet & Quinoa Salad: This vibrant and crunchy salad is truly a rainbow on a plate. Loaded high with vitamin-rich carrots, cabbage, beets, and edamame, we also add toasted walnuts and hempseeds for extra protein and crunch. Served with golden raisins and a lemon-mint dressing, it's pure refreshment.

Raw Energy Bar: A no-bake snack bar, made with wholesome oats, almonds, dried cherries, walnuts, and energizing matcha.

Acai Bowl: Antioxidant-rich acai berries make a delicious breakfast when blended with bananas, berries, and protein-rich hempmilk and sunflower butter. Topped with fresh fruit, coconut and pepitas, it is both nourishing and delicious.

Jackfruit Carnitas Bowl with Fajita Veggies: Our vegan jackfruit carnitas are served with seasoned brown rice, fajita veggies, a red cabbage-carrot slaw, spiced sunflower seeds, and our avocado-cilantro-lime dressing.

24 Carrot Gold Muffin: This moist carrot muffin is loaded with applesauce, nutritious flaxseeds, almonds, and plump raisins, and is spiced with cinnamon and ginger.

Spinach & Mushroom Tofu Scramble: Our tofu scramble, served with baby spinach, mushrooms, bell pepper, garlic and onions, plus a vegan bourbon bacon jam.

Summer Chili: A medley of zucchini, carrots, and bell peppers, is seasoned with chili powder and cumin, is served with cauliflower rice and fresh herbs.

Ginger Juice and other juices that were in these fresh amazing glass bottles!

VIDEO! I got my food delivered for a MONTH (review and is it worth it?)

Greetings babes!

Sharing from BALI this week, but I had to get a post up for ya! I'll be sharing updates on that trip soon.

But I had to write about this because, for a while I have been thinking about getting food delivery.

Like, food straight to my door. Healthy meals that I can eat through the week, that I don't need to think about.

For me, I've said it before, I just don't cook. I don't enjoy it, and I don't find it relaxing, and I'm always too hungry to wait for it to cook, and just find that other people make food SO much better than I do.

Like I could never make a delicious bowl that I get from Cafe Gratitude. Who has nori on deck at their house? (Not me!)

Sigh. Maybe someday when I have a baller kitchen!

So always having to think about what to eat, what to make, when to get it, and then on top of that thinking that it needs to be healthy, vegan and fairly affordable.

I will use any trick I can to make things streamlined. I am so busy (I know, I know, it's an epidemic and we are ALL so busy) but if i can make anything easier, and healthier for me, it's a win-win.

So I decided to check out Thistle.co which is based in SF. and promises vegan meal delivery at $138 a week.

If you didn't know I was vegan, I wrote about it here.

What's included in your delivery:

3 Breakfasts

3 Lunches

3 Dinners

3 Large juices

These are all fully prepared packaged meals.

You can also add a snack, a small juice, a latte, and cold brew coffee.

The whole sha-bang!

They have a vegan menu and an animal protein menu.

The vegan one is a bit cheaper, and honestly is SO filling.

Some example menu items:

Tantalizing Thai Curry Tofu Scramble

Mango, Roasted Cauliflower and Curried Chickpea Bowl

Summer Heatwave Salad

Coconut Chia Seed Pudding

Green Broccoli Bowl w/ Creamy Avocado Dressing

Full review is on the video above! Let me know if you have any questions below, and I'll be happy to answer them!

Guys I also have to honestly say, with Thistle, my orders got messed up, a whole BUNCH of times. I would say about 60% of my orders either got delivered to the wrong place, or were wrong....I think they are just starting and getting things going. They were always super on top of helping me out and rectifying the situation, I got credits and everything but I need to be transparent about it!

I would still recommend it, but also explore other options and places, I think I really enjoyed the overall experience of food delivery in general.

Have you guys tried any food deliveries? Or how do you cook each week and prepare delicious meals? Let me know! Would love to chat about this with you!

Have the best week!
