The best DAMN OTK BOOTS + RECOVERY over rest

Having a major splurge vs. steal moment.

Y'all know I'm all about the steal. Although I'm moving away from fast fashion, I am super supportive of finding a better more affordable alternative to the expensive.

So these are my pride and fucking joy.

The OTK boots, from TARGET basically a Stuart Weitzman knock-off.

They are SO comfortable a perfect heel height and I feel like a sex kitten when I wear them. Truly. It's the one thing that people really notice when you walk in the room, and they can't call you slutty because they cover you up!

I'll throw on a sweater dress, pair it over tight jeans, or with a tight dress and my jean jacket. It's guaranteed sexy, and when you're comfortable on top, you feel good in these too because they're so soft, and cover most parts of da leg.

Oh and I also wanted to shout this out to you guys because I feel like you may feel me on this.

I was listening to Tim Ferriss the other day, per usual (I've written about his podcast here and I also have a podcast you can listen to here) and someone asked him about taking time to rest. He mentioned that he has his passion, and he finds it hard to take 'chill' time for himself. He said he knows the benefit of it, but doesn't know how to relax.

I'm like wait did you go in my brain and send Tim a question because I HAVE NO CHILL. I give zero fucks but have no chill. Justin always says, I'm cool - but not chill".

So I was interested, like how do I chill? I know most people watch their shows, or something like that but I sort of hate TV.  I know I sound pretentious when I say that but I just don't enjoy it. Finding ways for me to unwind and relax is hard. I usually do it when I'm traveling, or yoga is a chill time for me.

But I LOVED what Tim Ferriss said.

He said to think about relaxing as 'recovery'.

Like the workout terminology, recovery SO when you go hard, you go hard and when you take that time off, it's key for you to RECOVER so you can go hard again.

Good, no? I love a good fitness/wellness reference.

So recovery mode, for me is stretching, foam rolling, reading (Tools of the TItans right now), things like that. Chatting with friends probably as a #1. That's real SOUL recovery.

How do you recover? Any good tips? Let em know.

Chat soon sistahs!

Life changing morning rituals (+ my fav jumpsuit from TUC + WES & CAT WALLET! from Octer)

Hi you!

How are ya? How was the weekend? Let me know what you did and if there's anything noteworthy, hehe. I had a good one, was on another level productive, got a car (which is so adult it hurts) and then did some work. Prepping for Bali in a week! WHAT!

But anyways! To you, to this post. On MORNINGS!

Guys I am a MORNING PERSON.

What are you? Morning? Night?

Not a person? Alien?

Hehe.

I love mornings so much. That time when you have all to yourself. To just start your day and get ahead before all the chaos ensues - is truly everything to me. I am a 'bed early, up early' person all DAY. As I get older and older, it's just my thing.

I do truly believe however that some people are night owls. They stay up, creative juices flowing and need that extra sleep in the AM since they were working away while the morning people snoozed. Justin is a night owl, but I am slowly transforming him.

How you morning, says a LOT about you. It says a lot about your priorities, honestly.

Think about it.

What's the first thing you do? Reach for your cell phone? Answer emails or check Instagram? That's your priority then. During those first moments of the day, that's what you're doing (for better or worse! I'm guilty!)

Or, you could get out of bed, stretch, drink hot water with lemon.... Move the body and start slowly and respectfully.

It could be a morning with an alarm, or if you're retired, you may not have an alarm (JK but if you don't have an alarm tell me your secrets).

What I mean, is that, depending on you, there is a right and a wrong way to wake up.

Waking up sets the tone for your day, and physically it can really help you to wake up mindfully.

Morning rituals to try:

Have a glass of warm lemon water: This has been said to ease digestion, and through the aryuvdeic tradition, is the best way to wake your body up and ease yourself into the day.

Meditate: I can't say it enough. It has changes the game for me. it's changed my life in the most drastic way, and has made me more present, more aware, and has decreased my anxiety. When I meditate in the morning, I feel like I have a better handle on the 'day', I don't feel like it happens and I am out of control, I feel more in control of it. You can read my tips to meditate here.

Scrape your tongue: This is another ancient tradition, but it's said to remove bacteria from your tongue to keep you from getting sick. For some reason, it just makes me feel clean! You can get the one I use here.

Stretch: I love a good quick stretch in the morning. Just a few seconds, to stand up straight, get the blood flowing, it's an easy way to wake your body up.

Journal: I go in and out with journaling, but if I do my gratitude journal, to write down what I am thankful for (just 3 things) I find that my life unfolds in such a beautiful way. Gauging your feelings is so important. I've had situations where I look back on my feelings in a journal, and it has helped direct me to the right decision in the present moment because I will have noticed a theme. My favorite journal ever is here.

Electronics on ice: Keep the phone away while you start your day. When you look at your phone immediately, you trigger the stress hormone cortisol, which can lead to higher stress levels, and with cortisol, higher amounts of belly fat. I find that if I wait for an hour before I look at my phone I feel much more prepared for the day.

Writing down a list: What do you want to accomplish today? Write it down and it's so much more likely to happen.

Green drink: I wrote about the Chef V green drink, and I really feel better when I have green juice in the morning. It gives your body so many micronutrients, and sets you up for success.  You can shop the Chef V Green Drink (with a 55% discount here!)

Having a 'moment': Just having a second to yourself, to be present. Where are you, where are you going, what is your purpose? I sometimes just put my hand over my heart to feel my heart beat and give thanks for my health, my home, my purpose.

WATER: Having water is so key in the morning. It starts your metabolism. flushes your system and helps to hydrate you after 7+ hours without water. I find that when I drink water in the morning, I also want to eat less throughout the day.

Keep it EASY: I LOVE this little key card holder that I got via Octer, by Charlotte Olympia.

How cute is the little kitty on it? LOVE.

I use this basically everyday in lieu of a full wallet and I feel like it's so much easier to carry with my phone.

Also P.S., what's different about Octer is that it's a unique marketplace of the biggest UK stores. So things that we wouldn't normally find at our U.S. based spots (like Nordstrom, Bloomies, etc) we can find here. They have everything from cell phones covers to running shoes, and instantly compare brands to show you the best matches; so you always get the lowest price and can discover products from stores, that I definitely wouldn't normally think of.

Like this cat wallet! Would have never thought of it - but found it on Octer, on the Farfetch website which is basically Net-a-porter esque and amazing.

Anything I missed? What do you do in the morning?

I think for me, meditation, water and not looking at my phone are truly key. The phone thing, is hard but I just think that whatever needs to be done can wait, and creating that boundary is important.

The others, I sort of go in and out of doing, but if I took an hour each day for me, just to do this, I think my world would completely change.

Definitely something to consider!

Okay let me know yours! Anything you really think makes a difference? Let me know! Also link your blog posts this week so I can read!

My favorite podcast episodes ever + an outfit to kick it in

Oh hello you!

So glad you're here. What's up? How are you?

I've been wanting to share a list of my favorite podcasts (specific episodes!) with you forever!

I the biggest fan of podcasts. It's like, my way of multi-tasking. I listen when I do almost everything, seriously. When I clean, when I'm chilling, when I'm walking... it keeps me:

  • Up to date with the world
  • Informed of new trends and topics
  • Interested in people
  • Interesting in conversations

I know all I know because of podcasts probably. I wrote about my favorites here!

But in this post I want to write about the episodes that really stuck with me.

Oh and did I mention I'm doing a podcast?

With my friend Lindsey Simcik, that'll be launching in the next few weeks. I just finished making the website (my fourth website I've made!) and it's called the Almost Thirty Podcast. It's about your twenties and thirties, and how it's such a interesting and pivotal time in life. We'll bring on guests, answer questions, and chat about topics like 20's us/30's us, and Hundred/Not Hundred.

But anyway, if you don't do podcasts, DO! In the car, wherever. These are 5 of my favorite episodes from the past few months.

Podcast Episodes to listen to now:

Tara Brach is my girl. She's calming, present and speaks on topics that relate to spirituality, mindfulness and joy. Once a week she'll post a really good guided meditation. If you've never meditated this is a great way to get into it. It's only 5 minutes, so I use it to come back to presence.

I really LOVED this podcast. It was great to hear the hosts talk in detail about a creative lifestyle, and balancing your creative life with your personal life. They asked some really good questions about what you need to be happy, and I felt like it just really flowed. This would be especially good for anyone whose a blogger or creative.

Rich Roll is my dude. Always dropping knowledge and keeping me up to date with important and thoughtful topics. This one in particular hit home because it's on a topic that I know little about. The fashion industry. Here Andrew Morgan talks about 'fast fashion' and the effect that super cheap clothing has on our environment, economy and world.

Not sure if you saw my dope interview with The LadyGang - but these babes KILL ME. I love them. Listen to all their podcasts but this one in particular made me chuckle.

I actually felt neutral about Chelsea Handler until this episode. She is so rad, for real. She owns her life, she's honest, but she also shows this really soft raw side of her, that's loving and open. I loved hearing the contrast between her and Anna (who is super sweet!)

For real Shaun White is HILARIOUS. I had never known his story, how he rose to fame and how he made a BUSINESS out of it. Capitalizing on his Gold Medals to build a life that outlasts those moments. This one's a good one, and super entertaining.

Keegan Michael Key of Key and Peele is a true Legend. Hilarious, warm, and charismatic, hearing him do improv on this podcast is the coolest thing. He's super creative and HILARIOUS, I was crying laughing listening to it.
