5 Pantry Products I'm Loving Right Now

Hello hi!

So glad you're here. How are you? Feeling ready for the holidays? SAME. I am so ready to slow it down and chill out a bit. I want to just chilllllllllllllllllllll a little. Lindsey and I are not recording in December or January at all, working on YouTube stuff, Patreon stuff, and just taking a step back to work on the business part of Almost 30 Podcast.

It's good to have a few months or time to just clean up, slow down, organize, strategize, reset...I want to do that in all aspects of my life this winter (even though it is absolutely not winter in LA rn, ha).

So for Hundred I'll give it a little facelift, I'll work on travel guides, and then for life, I want to really be more thoughtful about 2018 and what I want to create/where I want to spend my time.

What are you guys doing this winter? Let me know in the comments, always inspired by you!

I wanted to share some pantry products that I am LOVING right now. When I was thinking of things I need to share with you, all of these items are those!

5 New Pantry Products I am LOVING right now:

Four Sigmatic Brain Stick Pack: This is the best part of my morning right now. For some reason, I really don't like to drink water in the morning, when I know I should, so having this delicious tasting brain stick mixed with water. I feel a bit sharper, happier and it helps to hold me over until breakfast. I throw these in my purse, in my suitcase when I travel and always have them at my desk. Use the code: Almost30 for a discount babes.

Chi Tonic: This makes the BEST latte - ever. It has tons of chi, and gives you a little mood boost. Some of my favorite ingredients in there are:

  • Astragalus, to build Chi and help with your immunity
  • Shizandra, helps to calm and center the mind
  • Dan Gui moves and builds the blood and calms the liver, which can make you feel more calm overall.
  • Cinnamon, which is great for your skin
  • Licorice, the great harmonizer, helps to balance out your entire body
  • Lychee for happiness - it's said to be a mood booster!
  • Jujube for blood chi and spiritual activation :) something I LOVE.
  • Rhodiola grown high in the Himalayas this chi builder and blood oxygenator contains serotonin and dopamine activators. So it makes you happy

Silver Fern Fiber Sweetener: I have been hearing mixed reviews on Stevia lately, so I wanted to mix it up and try a better sweetener. I love that this brand is natural, organic, gluten free, vegan, and has fiber in it. Regular sweetners definitely don't do that :).

Trader Joes Pumpkin Pie Spice: SO GOOD. Love it in oatmeal, lattes, or sprinkled over cookies. When ya want to get your basic on it's the best.

Moon Juice Green Fermented Seed Crisps & Rainbow Juice Crackers: On any given day, you can find me eating these crisps. They are the most delicious thing, salty, crunchy, light, but filling...GAH. They are raw, full of nutrients, low carb and high protein, plus have zero sugar. I LOVE THEM. The green ones are lighter, really low in calories, only make from fermented items and have a bit of a spicy vibe. The rainbow ones are thicker, have pumpkin seeds and are made from the pulp of Moon Juice. So you get those phytonutrients in there, too.

Alright babes, off to Pure Barre (I have been loving it lately for low impact) have the best holiday!

Love you!

The deets on OIL PULLING (aka how to get super white teeth)

Oh hello you! Sharing from Bali! A few more days left here, staying at the AYANA Resort and it's basically the nicest place I've ever been, I feel like I'm on another planet TBH.

How are you? How was the weekend? So crazy it's fall now right? Loving the season change!

I wanted to share today's post with ya!

More weird shit y’all. Weird shit that WORKS.

You may have heard of coconut oil for moisturizing your hair and body, for fat loss or even for cooking. It's got properties that make it good to add to your diet and beauty routine.

Oh and The Skinny Confidential cites it as the best lube - LOL. Yes, Lube.

But if you don't know about oil pulling you should because it's so cheap, so easy and a natural way to improve your health.

It's the best way to whiten your teeth, improve gum and oral health and make your breath super fresh. It's how I keep my teeth super white, without using white strips (which hurt my teeth!)

So, what is oil pulling?

Oil pulling is an old trick to clean your mouth, remove the germs and clean yourself. Part of Ayurvedic medicine. Taking 20 minutes in the morning, you oil ‘pull’ the germs from your mouth with coconut oil each day before you eat or drink anything else.

Vogue says,

For those unfamiliar with the Ayurvedic practice—which has been credited as a potential cure-all for everything from headaches and allergies to hormone imbalances and acne in recent months—it involves swishing a high quality food-grade oil in your mouth (sesame, olive, or coconut, for example) for twenty minutes, then spitting it out. The ancient cleansing method is meant to eliminate bacteria and microorganisms and, along the way, purportedly detoxifying the body’s lymph nodes, glands, and even skin by default.

So, Vogue is in on this. Let's get to it.

How to do it:

Make sure to do it in the morning, before you've eaten or drank anything, you can also do it before each meal to further increase your dental and oral health.

It's best described via some of the detail from wellness mama,

  1. Put 1-2 teaspoons of oil into the mouth.

  2. Swish for 20 minutes. Apparently the timing is key, according to Dr. Bruce Fife, author of Oil Pulling Therapy, as this is long enough to break through plaque and bacteria but not long enough that the body starts re-absorbing the toxins and bacteria. The oil will get thicker and milky as it mixed with saliva during this time and it should be creamy-white when spit out. It will also double in volume during this time due to saliva.

  3. Spit oil into the trash can.  Especially if you have a septic system like I do… don’t spit into the sink! The oil may thicken and clog pipes. Do not swallow the oil as it is hopefully full of bacteria, toxins and pus that are now not in the mouth!

  4. Rinse well with warm water. Warm water seems to clean the mouth better. I swish a few times with warm water to get any remaining oil out of my mouth. Some sources recommend swishing with warm salt water.

  5. Brush your teeth well.

Positive Benefits:

Helps reduce overall oral health: The lipids in oil reduce the adhesion of bacteria to the teeth and gums.

Relieves bad breath: Reduces plaque to support the health and gums.

Some sources claim that cavities have also been shown to be reduced by up to 50% in people who practice oil pulling.

Whitens teeth, naturally.

I wouldn’t have shared this if I didn’t think it worked. Honestly. But oil pulling WORKS. I don’t do it for the full 20 minutes (who has twenty minutes?) but about 5-8 minutes before I eat breakfast or do anything else and I notice an immediate glean of my teeth.

I don’t use white stripes anymore, and I love this as the way to keep my teeth white, naturally.

Listed benefits beyond dental health?

Many holistic practitioners cite other benefits of oil pulling. It is believed that oil pulling stimulates the lymphatic system and aids in the transport of toxins away from vital organs. The reported benefits of oil pulling include:

  1. Clear skin
  2. Beter digestion
  4. Promotes normal sleep patterns
  5. Helps kidney and liver function

What you need and where to get it:

I seriously love natural, easy, cheap ways to keep you pretty/healthy/fit. This one, is one of those!

Here I have Trader Joes photographed because I always pick it up from the store and it's super easy.

You can shop the best coconut oils below:

Another one of the best brands for coconut oil is The Skinny Co. Coconut Cil which is a SUPER high quality coconut oil.

It's unrefined, eco-friendly, and alkaline. I have been using their coconut oil for the past few weeks, either cooking, pulling or even eating at night so my metabolism stays up to burn through the evening!

They actually have a special oil for pulling that has essential oils in it too which makes it taste AMAZING. I love love this one. Get it here.

P.S...other great uses for coconut oil:

  1. Body lotion. It makes your hands, and skin SUPER smooth.
  2. Put coconut oil in smoothies for added health benefits and smoothness.
  3. Eye makeup remover. Its also an all natural moisturizer.
  4. For shaving. Makes your legs smooth and super affordable.
  5. In tea or coffee. Helps fill you up for the day with healthy fats.
  6. In cooking. It's a stable and healthy alternative to olive oil.
  7. LUBE, LOL. Via The Skinny Confidential

Actually going to go oil pull now after reading all these benefits. SUPER amped on white teeth and weight loss....(I know I'm the worst, LOL).

Have you guys tried oil pulling? Any other uses for coconut oil? Seriously it's like a MIRACLE! Super cheap, natural and you can use it for EVERYTHING!

Easy breezy breakfast that takes 2.5 seconds (+ has protein, & superfoods!)

I know sometimes you read my blog and think, "wow Krista is a total expert in cooking and baking". She posts such fabulous homemade cooking and food posts (aka cleansing and protein bars that I just buy). With all the difficult recipes I whip up, it seems like that. I know.

But. Sigh, *SHOCKER* I'm really not any expert at all.

I've done VERY few posts on food, and it's for smoothies, or awesome protein bars.

I just don't do cook.

I eat too much food when I am waiting for the food to cook, period the end.

I don't have a big kitchen and I don't enjoy it or have supplies.

Those are my thoughts.

This recipe I shared with some friends and they were really into it, and wanted to share with you!

It's so easy.

It's so delicious.

Its super affordable.

It's low in sugar, packed with super foods and tastes like chocolate amazingness.

Trader Joe's is awesome for bulk foods, but also ordering online means you don't leave the house. AYYY!!

So here we are!

Recipe for a super easy, filling, affordable, grab and go chocolate protein chia seed breakfast, that takes 2.5 seconds to make.

What you need:

Chia Seeds, about a 1/3rd cup

Hemp Seeds, about a half cup

Flax Seeds (I like ground better), about 1/4th cup

Vega Sport Chocolate and Greens Protein Powder, one scoop

Almond Milk, about a 1/2 cup, but really just do as much as you'd like (I love the 365 brand from Whole Foods)

A hipster mason jar because plastic is SO OUT

Where to get supplies:

What you need to do:

  • Throw everything in a jar, and mix it up so that it's a soupy consistency.

  • The chia seeds will absorb the liquid to become a mouse like texture overnight.

  • After stirring it up, throw it in the fridge.

  • et Viola!

  • Take with you to work, or just eat it in the morning!

I have been taking it with me to go in the morning and it's so freaking good.

You can add other stuff to it too. Whatever you'd like, goji berries, cinnamon, or fruit. Feel free to make it your own!

Do you guys have any super easy recipes that you use in the morning? Would love to hear your routine!

P.S. Almost there! It's THURSDAY!
