MEDITATION ARTIST BIET SIMKIN on raising your vibration and changing your life

Oh man guys!

So glad you're here. How's the week? Hope all is well :).

For today and our interview. I am so excited to share with you the amazing BIET SIMKIN.

Recently featured in Vogue, and Elle, she is a queen who is on the rise in the wellness world, and for good reason.

The shit that she's been through that has led her to become as fascinating, open, and in tune as she is, is astounding. So I wanted to peel back the layers and get a bit deeper in advance of the event we are hosting with her on November 7th, at Parachute Hotel in Venice (make sure to use the code almost30 for a discount!)

For those of you who don't know who Miss Simkin is, she New York native, first-generation American and a leader in the world of meditation. Not only was her father an awakened shaman who gave her the Book of the Dead at age nine, Biet is also a singer and fashion guru who spent a big part of her life crushing the whole sex, drugs, and rock n' roll lifestyle.

She went through a series of deaths, her own personal evolution, and so much more to become the awakened light and leader she is today.

The journey to find your identity is hard for everyone, and Biet has developed a meditation technique not only to help you find it, but to help you be the best person you can be. Her technique is like "watching a documentary on yourself" and observing your every move AKA "Divided Attention Mediation".

Another amazing point Biet stresses is how we are more than just our body and our minds. Everything from hallucinations, serendipity, and voices - those all mean more than we know. And Biet talks about how listening to these transcendental messages LITERALLY saved her LIFE and how her practice develops this kind of acknowledgement.

We also interviewed this amazing lady on the Almost 30 Podcast, which I've been told is many peoples favorite episode.

Let's dive a bit deeper into the mind of this goddess, Biet.

What is Center of The Cyclone?

The Center of the Cyclone is many things. First it's the quiet part of the storm in the center where nothing happens, where everything is still. I see this as a metaphor for the soul. The soul doesn't get hurt, doesn't feel pain, doesn't lose it's job, doesn't go through break ups. We do, but the soul does not. That is the Center of the Cyclone. It was also a book by a hero of mine in the 70's John Lilly. It is the name of the meditation system I founded for all these reasons.

You’ve worked with brands like Vice, Wanderlust Festival, Adidas, Sony, Samsung….to name a few! How do you weave in the creative/spiritual with big brands?

It's easy. We live in one world. I live in America where brands are a major part of all of our consumption. Brands are a language unto themselves. To me, what's most important is bringing meditation into the REAL WORLD! The real world has many brands in it! What I believe is as a spiritual teacher I only align with brands that speak a similar language to me, or that have a similar feeling to me. The future is schools, work place environments and brands all have meditation imbued into them!

bietsimkin2.jpg

For those new to meditation, how can they get started?

First thing is insert meditation and prayer into your life. Meditation can be as short as 10 minutes a day of sitting in silence and breathing. The reason I add prayer, which I call "asking" in my work, is because if we don't begin to "ask" for help from within and begin to communicate with our inner world, we won't be able to hear it's direction. The voice within might be saying "stop! Don't date that person" or "no, don't eat that thing" or "no! Don't email your mom that angry note!" And if you don't pray you won't hear it. So much goes unheard. In my life I never heard what the voice was saying! And so I always did the wrong thing. I knew deep down I was making crappy choices but I didn't know how to stop. It wasn't until I started praying and meditating daily (non negotiable) that everything elevated!

Being an emotional, spiritual and sensitive person, how do you protect yourself energetically?

Ha! That's a good question. I actually use meditation and prayer first because that allows for self knowing. To know thy self is the ultimate protection against anything you be hit with outside. When you know yourself you can see that anything that bothers you stems from within. When you know yourself you see that any disturbance stems from within. Today I go out and it doesn't matter what happens or who happens my state is completely up to me! My state is reliant on the higher and inner worlds which like the Center of the Cyclone are unchanging! I don't need to "protect" myself if I know the greatest enemy I have lives within me!

What is Club Soda and why does it exist? (I LOVE THIS)

Club Söda NYC is a sober curious quarterly event that Ruby Warrington and I founded. It's an experience that pairs the discussion of a sober or sober curious life with tools that can effectively make a sober life more enjoyable, such as meditation, Kundalini Disco and discussion amongst hip peers. All this leads guests to explore, what would my life look like if I didn't drink as much? Or even what would my life look like if I didn't drink at all? And how do I get high on my own supply? Super important is that so many are curious, how do I date sober? How do I fuck someone sober? How do I ... sober!? We provide answers and also create a safe space for that discussion. I believe people are starting to get less interested in partying and more interested in living a life beyond their wildest dreams!

How can people raise their vibration?

Meditation, Sex with people they actually love, food that is healthy, dance, laughter, friends who lift them up! Prayer!

We’re so excited to be running the WHO ARE YOU event with you! Can you talk about how this event came about in NYC?

Well I have been studying this work of the planetary enneagram with my father for over 30 years and after he passed away I devoted my life to my fathers studies. This particular study of human body types and how knowing them makes life so much easier specifically appealed to me because mastering it changed my life! I led a workshop like this one at my friend Kyle's Beautiful home in Tribeca and the 50 guests who attended were all at the edge of their seats to learn these secrets! The workshop was such a huge success I thought I would share it with the west coast family! Nothing matters to me more than helping people to awaken to who they truly are, to an easier life, to a realer life, to a woke life!

bietsimkin4.png

What was the feedback from that event in NYC?

Overwhelming! The crowds went wild!

Who is the WHO ARE YOU event a good fit for?

Anyone who is looking to understand themselves better and to see how they can get along with others more effectively. Anyone who wonders why they get along with some people better than others. Anyone who is looking to find a great partner , anyone who is looking to be a better partner in a current relationship. Anyone seeking to understand the meaning of life and our relationship to the universe in which we live. BASICALLY ANYONE!!!

What are you most excited about in your life right now?

I am writing a book due to be out with Simon and Schuster in 2018 about the laws that keep us from our enlightenment. I am super excited about sharing that with the world.

Singing live at my events is exciting as well since as you know I score my meditations with my latest record "The Lunar".

More information on the WHO ARE YOU EVENT? Happening on November 7th in Venice, CA.

THIS IS A WORKSHOP WHICH DELVES INTO A HIDDEN METHOD TO REVEAL WHO YOU TRULY ARE AND WHAT YOU CAME TO DO ON THIS PLANET.

A BEAUTIFUL GUIDED MEDITATION, REFRESHMENTS, AND AN INTIMATE SETTING INCLUDED.

Ever want to know the secret of how people get along and why? Why you are so amazing at certain things and crappy at others? Why you do some things too much and can't stop, like being lazy, being too talkative, being invisible, being too dominant, too angry etc... Would you want to know an ancient system that brings you back, not only to knowing yourself truly and becoming your most effective self, but also getting along with others, being a terrific romantic partner, being a strong leader and softening to the real you?

It is good to know that meditation alone will not get you to the final point that you are looking for. Although we will meditate inside this workshop we will also learn the inner workings of ourselves, our souls and how we make any sense in this universe at all.

This workshop is something that is very dear to me and at the crux of how I found, not just a way to be in my essence which in some ways I already was in some ways, but also to fall in love truly with who I actually am and become extremely grounded. After 30 years of study of this system and 7 years of having devoted my life to it I want nothing more than to share it with you. I attribute so much of my life's ease and joy to the system I will be teaching on the 7th. I absolutely would love to share with you and can't wait for the deep and powerful evening!

Limited spaces are available, and this will sell out! We look forward to seeing you there! Buy your ticket here, and use the code almost30 for a discount!

Love sharing these amazing lights with you. Let me know if you're making it to the event, and I can't wait to see you then!

Reveal your creativity with Big Magic + my favorite summer uniform

Hi you! Happy Monday!

Glad you're here :)

How are ya? How was the weekend? What did you do?

TBH, lately I've been capital B BORING.

I am super heads down working and trying to make things happen with the blog. I have friend time in between, but right now, in this season of my life, I need to really focus on what's in front of me.

Connecting with you through this blog medium right here.

(Or these here!)

So, Monday is back, baby. Here we are!

I wanted to write on two things.

First, this jumpsuit. I'm not always into writing a straight-up fashion post, so I'll be brief. But this thing is THE BOMB.

Comfortable. All black. Bell bottom with lace-up sides. I LOVE this thing. I wear it every date night and it's super comfortable.

Plus it's on sale for $31 freaking dollars.

Second, as we check the mornings email (potentially depressed from the thought of another week) it's a good time to think about joy, and finding creativity this week.

Big Magic, the book by Elizabeth Gilbert is all about that.

For real though, ya'll need to read this book.

For the creatives or non-creatives, the message is applicable to anyone and everywhere.

(Especially my blogger friends!)

Big Magic is a reference to living a more creative existence, period.

From my perspective, it's removing the pressure we place on creativity. Making space to be creative without having an end goal. Bringing more joy back into it.

Every single one of us has the ability to be more creative. To live in less fear (of what people think, of failing, of looking stupid...) and live in more joy.

It's applicable to Monday especially, because being creative doesn't mean your quitting your job and going all in on your passion sometimes.

Your creative outlet, doesn't need to pay the bills or be validated by others. It only needs to feel good for YOU.

Whatever it is, if it's bringing you joy, that is enough.

Often we see glorified stories of people quitting their jobs, refinancing their houses and finding overnight success with a major innovative idea.

But that may not work for everyone. Being creative isn't only going zero or hundred.

(See what I did there).

There's a place for everyone to be creative, and for creativity to do something for you that doesn't have to radically change your life.

A creative life is an amplified life. It’s a bigger life, a happier life, an expanded life, and a hell of a lot more interesting life. Living in this manner—continually and stubbornly bringing forth the jewels that are hidden within you—is a fine art, in and of itself.
— Big Magic

We can find creativity in small actions. Creating, because it brings you joy.

Nothing more, nothing less.

For a bit more on the actual book, This book review from The New York Times, explains it well.

Big Magic” is broken into six sections: Courage, Enchantment, Permission, Persistence, Trust and Divinity. Gilbert wonders in the first,

“Do you have the courage to bring forth the treasures that are hidden within you? . . . The hunt to uncover those jewels — that’s creative living.” If the creativity inside of you has not burrowed deeper than ever before upon hearing itself referred to as a “treasure” and “jewels,” it is more stalwart than mine.

But Gilbert spends much of the book coaxing out even the shyest creativity with a kind of extended pep talk: Creativity is inside all of us, it should be expressed, and it is not selfish or crazy or foolish to do so — it is, in fact, the best way to live a satisfying life. Gilbert’s advice reads like a positive fortune cookie: a nice surprise you will forget once the taste of won tons has faded from your mouth. Creativity is “your birthright as a human being”; “Even if you grew up watching cartoons in a sugar stupor from dawn to dusk, creativity still lurks within you”; “You are not required to save the world with your creativity.
— Villa Paskin, The New York Times

Do whatever brings you to life, then. Follow your own fascinations, obsessions, and compulsions. Trust them. Create whatever causes a revolution in your heart.
— Big Magic

I know what I want from life doesn't have a linear path to follow.

Reading the book helped to normalize and affirm a belief that I am a creative being. It also reminded me that I need to be kind to my creativity.

Being creative has brought me joy, and allowed me to express myself in a way that helps me to lead a more fulfilling life. It's allowed me to feel more like 'myself' than ever before. It's made my existence feel UNIQUE and special. Because only I can do what I do. Yes there are SO many other bloggers, but the fact that it's me writing Hundred, makes all the difference.

Which goes the same for your life. Only YOU can bring your own unique perspective, experience, ideas, enthusiasm and spice to whatever it is you are called to do.

You can do it without quitting your job, and you can do it because creativity is inside of all of us. It doesn't make you selfish or weird or crazy. You can take a photography class once a week. You can take up painting after dinner (maybe instead of Netflix). You could start making your own jewelry! There are so many ways to add a bit of creativity to your life.

Thus, adding a bit more joy.

It's just the best way to lead a satisfying life.

Isn't that what we all want anyway?

But back to you.

What do you think? Have you read the book?

What are your current creative outlets? I'd LOVE to know how you find joy in expressing yourself. it could give good ideas to others!

I find this blog to completely fulfill me in that way. It's photography, editing, writing, connecting, design....so many things!

You could also consider fashion, or dressing yourself as an expression of your creativity. Cooking, writing, photography, painting, ice-skating, dancing by yourself at the bar....

It's endless!

Guys, jumpsuits and inspired ramblings on this Monday.

LIFE.

Cannot wait to hear what you think! Let a sister KNOW.

xoxo

How to look effortlessly chic (even when it's hot out, or you want to just wear pajamas)

Sup ya'll.

How are you?!

Real quick, I got really good feedback on the hair post on Friday - so glad you liked it!

Anyway how how was your weekend? Do anything fun? Let me know! For me, it was a good L.A. weekend. Mixed work with some play - saw Finding Dory - LOL. Did a SoulCycle influencer ride with some Hundred Blog readers and Style Collective bloggers. It was SUPER inspiring to be with other blog babes that are doing similar things as you.

I want to write a blog life update post this week so I'll share that later.

So, yesterday I donated THREE BAGS of clothes to Goodwill in Los Angeles, and let me tell you, getting rid of, going through and organizing your clothes is EVERYTHING. If you want to clean, give back, and remember all the clothes you actually do have, do this.

It's easy, it helps people and it's a good way to make space in your life.

You can find Goodwill Donation Center's here, and then drive up with all your goods, drop them off and get a receipt that you can use towards your taxes if you need! There are also other places to donate clothes, like Salvation Army, etc. but it's a win-win all around.

So, to the post.

Which I am writing in my damn white tee. Just an easy post to share a good thing to get for summer to wear with EVERYTHING.

White t-shirts are SO badass for some reason.

I'm not sure if it's like 'you're cool enough to keep this clean' or like 'I haven't spilled on myself today'...but there's something about it that makes it crisp, easy and sexy.

White t-shirt. Boyfriend or skinny jeans. Sneakers. Leather jacket. Done.

Supermodel off duty vibe.

You can dress a white t-shirt up, with basically anything in your closet or you can dress it down, obviously. You could truly wear one every single day.

I found the softest, best cut white t-shirt, ever, and I wear it as much as the Alexander Wang T-shirt that I bought two years ago. This one's just cheaper. It fits right, not too big or too small and I got a medium just so it's a big looser but still nice!

$15 dollars baby, $15 dollars. OLD NAVY REPPIN!

I also linked some of my favorites below, and things you can wear with your white t-shirt. For summer when you want to wear something soft, something easy and something that goes with ANYTHING, this is it!

Here I am wearing the t-shirt with Levi's easy black shorts and my favorite sneakers from Adidas!

Shop the best (cheap) white tee's

Shop thangs to wear with your white tee

I am wearing mine almost everyday.

Like I do, I'll wear it until it's really gross, then probably never again.

Or just will get a new one because it is hard to keep these clean! But buying cheaper ones makes it easier to stay up with a new white.

Short and sweet - lots to do today!

Also how is summer going guys? Isn't it amazing how we PACK it all in during these amazing months? I LOVE IT.

Keep me posted. Any favorites?!

Loving you.
