It seem's like with birthdays, much like New Years eve, there can be so much pressure to have the absolute best.day.ever.
You know what I mean?
It's the best to be the 'birthday girl' but it's also like, nerve-wracking because there's so much expectation! There's so much anticipation, planning, organizing and people reaching out, it can be a lot.
My birthday has come and gone, and this year I wanted to remind myself to be super grateful for whatever came my way, and to ultimately expect nothing.
Which wasn't hard because it fell on a Monday this year! Haha
I feel like in the past I've had expectations for others to do certain things for me, or to show they love me in a certain way. Like, who reached out, and when, what did they say and do.
On the flip side I've had expectations on myself to do some amazing shit and be with 100 different people, getting attention from everyone. LOL.
You know the drill.
Now I'm not saying it's not important to know whose showing you love on your day!
But this year, I honestly made a concerted effort to pay no mind to planning something big, and just celebrated in my own small ways.
And, I honestly think this is a sign of getting old, but like, it was the best.
No expectations, just consciously being grateful for everyone taking time out of their day to show me love. Flowers, cupcakes, SoulCycle gear, cards and love notes didn't hurt either :), but I didn't expect it - so it was really cool.
Now that I'm 27, I just need to find time to reflect on where I've been and where I've come from as I close the door on the past year!
A few things come to mind like:
- Moving in with Justin
- Moving to NYC from Chicago (at the same time!)
- Traveling to 3 continents, 7 countries and a handful of states
- Making meditation a daily practice
- Changing jobs to one in which I'm able to grow
- Making the acknowledgement of my friends and people I love a daily practice
Cheers to another amazing year, filled with love, opportunity and a whole lot of change. Most importantly to releasing expectations and being grateful always.
Would love to hear about birthday traditions anyone has. Also if people make goals on their birthday! Lemme know!
Love, Krista xx
